Is the bank charges eating away your profits?
Too many times when we talk with Small and Medium size business owners we usually tell them about the importance of having a bank account and building a relationship with the bank, but we seldom talk about ensuring that they choose the right bank and account for their businesses. For a small business, choosing a wrong bank, or even an account not suited to your needs may lead to paying exorbitant fees which will effectively eat away your profits. So choose your bank very carefully.

The impact that AI and advancements in technology is generally having in the consulting environment is quite massive. Not only has technology completely taken over the some of the tasks that consultants did and charged big fees for, but it has also increased competition quite tremendously. In the past, if say, I needed a financial strategist, my search would be restricted to my local area, but with emergence of platforms like fivver and upwork amongst many others it means I can transact with someone millions of miles away. The implication for us as consultants being that when we think of our addressable market, we should not confine ourselves to our local areas, but rather we should should look globally and built tools to assist us in serving such a market. This applies to most industries as well.

There is a saying that 'Basotho ha ba tsebe khoebo ea kopanelo.' This really got me thinking hard and drawing on our experience whether this is true. As much as starting a business together as a group is not a magic pill it clearly has some great advantages, key amongst them being pulling of resources and therefore ability to grow faster. What we have rather found to be a problem most of time for coming together to start businesses is that we are not deliberate enough in choosing who are business partners are going to be, We tend to chose people closest to us with the hope that they will be great business partners too, forgetting that what it takes to be a great friend, is not necessarily what's required to make a great business partner. So before choosing your business partner ask yourself whether they have the right qualities, attitudes, skillset etc. to help in you in taking the business to unforeseen heights.
