Empower Speakers Communication Group

Empower Speakers Communication Group Empower Speakers is a team of professional consultants in business and education communication. We told them, “Your talk is not about a slideshow.

A team of scientists and engineers who were going to speak at a conference came to us asking for help with their PowerPoint presentation. It’s not about numbers and words on a screen. It’s about reaching the audience. It’s about what you know, what you can create, and how you can help others.” We trained them to present with skill and expertise. Now, when they speak at conferences, other scientists and engineers approach them and ask for training on how to speak at conferences.

Don't be deadpan. Overact. Ham it up. Use your energy to fire up the audiences' brain. That will grab their attention which will then be more open to absorbing the message you want them to hear.

In the audiences' brain, the left hemisphere pays attention to your words and meanings. The right hemisphere focuses solely on your physicality. Be animated and upbeat. Move, gesture, interact with everyone. That's how you connect with people.

Your physical delivery style is crucial. Eye contact, movement, gesturing, vocal inflection, facial expression, animatedness---these grab and hold the audience's attention. If you don't deploy all of these during your entire talk, the audience's attention will drift away.

Stage fright nervousness is invisible. It’s like having a headache. If you tell people you have a headache, they know; if you don’t tell them, they don’t know. So when you’re standing in front of an audience and you feel like saying, “I’m nervous,” keep mum and act confident.
