On International Tea Day, we recognise the millions of smallholder farmers across East Africa — in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and beyond — who produce one of the world's most consumed beverages, season after season. Tea farming is hard work, and the farmers behind every cup deserve access to the best agronomic tools and support available.

More than 75% of the world's food crops depend on pollinators in some way. That includes many of the crops we help farmers grow across Africa and the Middle East every day, from sunflower to citrus to vegetables and beyond.

Plant health and pollinator health aren't separate conversations. They're the same one. Looking after a crop properly means looking after the bees, beneficial insects and ecosystems that the crop depends on, which is why our research goes into developing solutions that work on target pests while staying mindful of the wider environment they sit in.

On World Bee Day, we're thinking about the pollinators doing the quiet work, and the farmers who manage their land in a way that lets nature keep showing up.

News from Zambia 🇿🇲

Our team recently spent the day in Namwala, Southern Province, for a National Field Day hosted on the farm of Mr. Obie Kalyalya. A huge thank you to him for opening his land, and to the farmers of Namwala for the warm welcome and the conversations that filled the day.

The theme said it well: Building Resilience through Innovative Seed Solutions to Boost Farmer Productivity. The work on the ground matched it. Climate-smart seed varieties on display, real exchanges with farmers about what's working in their fields, and the kind of feedback that tells us we're solving for the right things.

We were honoured to host the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Reuben Mtolo Phiri, as our Guest of Honour. Thank you, Honourable Minister, for the continued support and for taking the time to be with us in Namwala.

A sincere thank you to our Corteva Zambia Managing Director, Mr. Samson Nyendwa, for the leadership behind the day, and to everyone whose work made it possible. The chiefs from the Southern Region, DACOs and PACOs, ZNFU representatives, camp officers, government and private sector partners, the media, and every stakeholder who turned up for the farmers of Namwala.

International Day of Plant Health is a useful reminder that protecting a crop is about much more than yield. It's about a farmer's income, food on the table, and rural communities that can plan for the long term instead of the next emergency.

Plant health sits at the centre of everything we do at Corteva Agriscience. It's in the genetics of every seed we develop. It's in the seed treatments that give a young plant the strongest possible start, tested at facilities like our Centre for Seed Applied Technologies in Rosslyn.

Happy Mother's Day to the women who feed a continent.

Today, many countries across Africa and the Middle East are celebrating Mother's Day, and it feels right to take a moment for the women who carry so much of the work that puts food on tables.

Women grow an estimated 70% of Africa's food. Behind that statistic are mothers waking before sunrise to check on livestock, walking children to school and then walking straight to the field. Mothers who farm through drought, through uncertain rains, through seasons that test everything they have. Mothers who pass agricultural knowledge down the way other families pass down recipes.

We think about our SoilSistas today especially. Women who are building farming businesses, creating jobs in their communities and raising families while doing all of it. The energy in a room full of these women is something you feel before you hear.

To every mother working the land across Africa and the Middle East, happy Mother's Day. We see you, we stand with you, and we are proud to grow alongside you.

Counterfeit seed isn't just a yield problem. It's a trust problem.

Across Southern and Eastern Africa, the spread of fake seed is climbing by around 5% a year. In parts of Uganda, maize yields from counterfeit seed have come in as low as a fifth of what the genuine variety would deliver.

The damage doesn't stop at the harvest. When a farmer plants what they believe is a trusted variety and the crop fails, the loss is financial, but it's also psychological. Many pull back from certified seed entirely. They return to saved grain. Years of progress in adopting improved varieties starts to unravel, not because the science failed, but because a fake product wearing the science's face did.

Industry research suggests fake inputs can cut yields by 30 to 50%, which translates directly into lost income, lost food, and lost confidence in the very tools that could transform a farming operation.

This is why we take counterfeiting seriously at Corteva Agriscience. We work with law enforcement, invest in authentication technology, and partner with our authorised dealer network across Africa and the Middle East to make sure what a farmer pays for is what a farmer gets.

The worst season often starts with the seed.

Drought and disease get the blame, but in many parts of Africa the problem begins long before planting. Counterfeit seed is one of the biggest threats farmers face right now, and it's growing. In some markets, close to half of the seed sold to farmers is fake, packaged to look exactly like the certified brands they trust. Same logo, same bag, none of the genetics or science inside.

The cost is brutal. Farmers who unknowingly plant counterfeit maize seed can harvest up to 82% less per acre than those planting the real thing. A whole season of land prep, labour, fuel and time, all chasing a yield that was never going to come.

News from Tanzania 🇹🇿

Our team recently wrapped up a demo tour across the Central and Southern Zones, spending real time in the field with farmers, agro-dealers and our local team to see how our products are performing in Tanzanian conditions.

The format was simple. Visit the demo plots. Walk the fields together. Talk through application and agronomy. Then listen.

What came back made the work worth it. Strong farmer turnout at every stop, real interest in the technologies on show, and a clear willingness to adopt what farmers were seeing on the ground.

A big thank you to our Country Leader Charles Chuwa for the leadership through the tour, to Joan Mbuva for keeping every activity running smoothly, and to the wider team for the work behind every stop. To the farmers who showed up, asked questions and shared their experience, this tour belonged to you.
