Ni Ni Aye Kyaw is an experienced IELTS and English language teacher, teacher trainer, and founder of Teacher Ni’s Academy: TEAM WE.
With over 20 years of experience in English language education, she has been teaching across Cambridge YLE, KET, PET, FCE, IELTS, and IGCSE (ESL/EFL).
She is one of the co-trainers at Mandalay TESOL Centre, where she has trained hundreds of ELT teachers in TKT preparation and professional development.
Her qualifications include an M.A. in English, CELTA, and a Diploma in TESOL. She is committed to learner-centred pedagogy and teacher development.
Abstract
Task-Based Learning (TBL) offers teachers a practical approach to making language learning more meaningful, communicative, and learner-centred. Rather than focusing on isolated language items for controlled practice, TBL encourages learners to use English to complete productive tasks. This workshop explores how TBL can move beyond traditional textbook exercises to promote genuine interaction and purposeful language use.
The session will introduce the core principles of Task-Based Learning and the main stages of a task-based lesson: Pre-task, Task Cycle, and Language Focus. Participants will experience a sample task, analyse what makes an activity truly task-based, and examine how familiar classroom exercises can be adapted into more communicative tasks. Through collaborative discussion and a guided lesson-design activity, participants will transform traditional materials into task-based lessons for their own teaching contexts.

Participants will leave with practical strategies, a flexible framework, and ready-to-use ideas for implementing TBL in ELT classrooms.
Participants will also be able to design a TBL lesson by adapting a traditional material from a text book to communicative tasks.
