Yakshas, who can control natural elements like rain, wind, and fire, are also incorporated into Burmade’s "Pit Taing Htaung Family" collection, which depicts the celestial fortress of "Alin Five Terraces" from the realm of the gods.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐘𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚?
A Yaksha (Yaksha) is described in Buddhist and Hindu mythology as a guardian or powerful spirit of nature. They do not reside in the divine realm under the direct command of Sakka (Indra) but live freely in nature, existing as beings between humans and gods. Unlike demons, Yakshas are recognized in Buddhist scriptures as divine warriors.

𝗬𝗮𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺
Yakshas are often revered as village guardians or temple protectors, and legends frequently depict them aiding humans. In some villages, offerings of fruits, rice, and milk are made to Yakshas to seek protection from harm. The annual worship ceremony at the Mahamyaing Yaksha Shrine in Mandalay is a testament to this enduring belief. Additionally, Yaksha statues can still be seen at the gates and foundations of pagodas across Myanmar, placed there to ward off danger.

ယက္ခဆိုတာဘာလဲ
ယက္ခ (Yaksha) ဆိုတာ ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာနဲ့ ဟိန္ဒူဒဏ္ဍာရီတွေမှာ သဘာဝတရားရဲ့ အစောင့်အရှောက် (သို့) စွမ်းအားရှိနတ်သား/မိစ္ဆာသတ္တဝါလို့ဖော်ပြထားပါတယ်။ နတ်ပြည်မှာနေပြီး သိကြားမင်းရဲ့ တိုက်ရိုက်အမိန့်ခံတဲ့ နတ်တွေမဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ သဘာဝမှာ လွတ်လွတ်လပ်လပ်နေထိုင်ပြီး လူနဲ့နတ်ကြားအဆင့်ရှိတဲ့ သတ္တဝါတွေပါ။ ဒါ့အပြင် ယက္ခတွေဟာ ဘီလူးတွေနဲ့မတူ ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာကျမ်းဂန်မှာ အသိအမှတ်ပြုခံထားရတဲ့ နတ်စစ်သည်တွေဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ယက္ခနဲ့ မြန်မာ့ကိုးကွယ်ယုံကြည်မှု
ယက္ခတွေကို ရွာစောင့်နတ်၊ ဘုရားစေတီစောင့်နတ်အဖြစ် လက်ခံထားကြပြီး လူတွေကိုကူညီတဲ့အဖြစ်အပျက်တွေရှိတယ်လို့ ဇာတ်တော်တွေမှာ ဖော်ပြလေ့ရှိပါတယ်။ တချို့ကျေးရွာတွေမှာ ယက္ခတွေကို သစ်သီး၊ ဆန်၊ နွားနို့နဲ့ ပူဇော်ပသကြပြီး ဘေးအန္တရာယ်ကင်းဖို့ ဆုတောင်းတာမျိုးရှိပါတယ်။
မန္တလေးမှာရှိတဲ့ မဟာမြိုင်ယက္ခနတ်ကွန်းမှာ နှစ်စဉ်ပူဇော်ပွဲကျင်းပနေတာက ဒီယုံကြည်ကိုးကွယ်မှုကို မီးမောင်းထိုးပြနေတာပါပဲ။ ဒါ့အပြင် မြန်မာနိုင်ငံရှိ ဘုရားစေတီတွေရဲ့ တံခါးဝနဲ့အုတ်မြစ်တွေမှာ အန္တရာယ်ကင်းစေဖို့ရည်ရွယ်ပြီး ယက္ခရုပ်တွေထုလုပ်ထားတာကို ယနေ့ထိတွေ့မြင်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

🙏🏻 The conception of the Bodhisatta Gautama in the womb of Queen Maha Maya.

🙏🏻 Prince Siddhattha’s encounter with the Four Great Signs (an old man, a sick man, a co**se, and an ascetic), which led him to renounce worldly life in pursuit of liberation.

🙏🏻 The Buddha’s first sermon, the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta (Setting the Wheel of Dhamma in Motion), delivered at Isipatana (Deer Park) after his enlightenment.

🙏🏻 The display of the Twin Miracle (Yamaka Pāṭihāriya)—emitting fire and water simultaneously—to humble the pride of heretics (tīrthikas and ascetics).

A Fortress of the Celestial Realm – The "Five-Tiered Alin" is intricately depicted in Burmade's "Pit Taing Htaung Family" collection, where Gumbahn stands as one of its divine guardians.

In Buddhist scriptures, Gumbahn is described as a "Devaputta" (celestial being), a warrior deity assigned by Sakka (Indra, king of the devas) to guard the third tier of the five-tiered Alin fortress. These celestial soldiers are tasked with repelling the invasions of Asuras (demonic forces).

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐡𝐧
Gumbahn warriors strike fear into the Asuras with thunderous roars, mystic chants, and illusions. Their signature "Gumbh" war cry can disorient enemies, while their enchanted bricks emit energy-absorbing light beams to attack. Additionally, their mantras weaken the Asuras, and they possess the ability to turn invisible during battle. Their tactical brilliance is so renowned that Buddhist texts highlight them as essential protectors of the celestial realm.

𝐆𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐡𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐫’𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟𝐬
Inspired by these Buddhist tales, Gumbahn has been revered in traditional Burmese animism as a guardian spirit of villages and towns. Believed to ward off evil, Gumbahn statues are often placed at village entrances to prevent enemies and malevolent forces from entering.

Another Treasure from Our Pyit Taing Htaung Family: The "Garuda" from Buddhist Scriptures

Among our Pyit Taing Htaung collection is a depiction of the "Garuda" - a celestial being that resides in the second tier of the heavenly fortress (A Lin Ngase) according to Buddhist texts.

The Garuda is known as the king of birds, capable of subduing even the mighty Naga serpents, as recorded in the scriptures. Within the Five Celestial Ranks, they serve as divine guards personally appointed by King Indra to protect the heavenly realm from Asura demons.

Garudas establish their own kingdoms and have their own rulers. A Garuda king measures approximately 150 yojanas in size, with a golden human-like body, white face, and hawk-like beak according to Eastern beliefs. They wear massive crowns so large they can block sunlight.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐚'𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬:
* Immune to Naga venom and capable of defeating them
* Their cries and terrifying appearance can intimidate Asuras
* Can control fire and wind - a single wingbeat can create storms
* Possess such speed and strength that one wing flap allows them to fly over 100 miles (a belief deeply rooted in Myanmar's culture)

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐫'𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦:
The Garuda is not only a divine guard appointed by King Indra to protect the heavens, but also revered in Myanmar's mythology as a guardian spirit of pagodas and nat shrines to this day. Buddhist scriptures record that the Buddha was once reborn as a Garuda in a previous life, and that Garudas served as King Indra's divine mount.

Legends tell how Garudas protect the heavenly realm by creating powerful winds with their wings to mislead approaching Asuras, and intimidate them by mimicking the act of devouring Nagas.

Therefore, the Garuda design in our Burmade Pich Taung collection is not ordinary decoration - it represents Myanmar's living heritage, depicting the powerful guardian "Garuda" that holds great spiritual significance in Myanmar's religious beliefs.
