๐Ÿ“ก EMTEL is proud to announce the signing of an agreement with the ICTA to bring satellite-based internet connectivity to Raphael Island, St. Brandon, one of the most remote territories of the Republic of Mauritius.

This landmark project, the first of its kind for St. Brandon, highlights the importance of connectivity as critical national infrastructure. Over the next two years, reliable communications services will support maritime surveillance, meteorological monitoring, operational communications, and the resident community on the island.

As Marcelo Aleman, CEO of Emtel, stated: "We are focused on being the trusted digital backbone of Mauritius, connecting people and extending connectivity to every Outer Island that forms part of its territory."

This achievement reflects the power of collaboration between the ICTA, National Coast Guard, Mauritius Meteorological Services, The Raphael Fishing Company, and EMTEL, working together to strengthen connectivity where it matters most.

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡บ A proud milestone for Mauritius and another step towards a more connected future.

๐Ÿ† Phoenix Central Achieves LEED Gold Certification

โ™ป๏ธ Transforming what exists can be even more impactful than building something new.

Phoenix Central has just achieved LEED Gold Certification, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a globally recognised benchmark for sustainable buildings.

This achievement demonstrates that existing commercial spaces can be successfully upgraded to meet international environmental standards, delivering measurable sustainability benefits without demolition or reconstruction.

At Currimjee, sustainability is embedded in the way we think, invest and grow. Through continuous improvements and significant building upgrades, Phoenix Central has evolved into a healthier, more efficient and environmentally responsible workspace while remaining fully operational for its tenants and occupants.

We were delighted to celebrate this milestone during a certificate presentation ceremony held at Phoenix Central on 19 August, alongside the Currimjee Real Estate team, Currimjee Group executives, tenants, partners and KYA Engineers Ltd, whose expertise and support were instrumental throughout the certification journey.

As we continue advancing sustainability initiatives across our portfolio, from renewable energy integration to future-ready developments, this recognition reinforces our commitment to creating lasting value for people, businesses and the environment.

When it comes to protecting our environment, preservation alone is no longer enough.

The real challenge of our time is restoration.

Since 2022, Natir has been restoring the Plaine Sophie forest, reintroducing native Mauritian species and helping rebuild ecosystems that have been degraded over time. Through sustainable, chemical-free practices, this work is restoring habitats while strengthening the resilience of one of our island's most important natural environments.

Today, this commitment is entering a new phase.

Through a three-year partnership between the Currimjee Foundation, Emtel, Natir and the Forestry Services, an additional 2,500 indigenous and endemic plants will be introduced across 1,250 mยฒ near Mare aux Vacoas, helping protect a vital forest and watershed ecosystem.

And this commitment is already taking root.

Earlier this year, to mark World Environment Day, volunteers from across the Group joined partners on the ground, contributing directly to the restoration effort.

Because restoring forests is about much more than planting trees. It is about safeguarding water resources, enhancing climate resilience, increasing carbon sequestration, and protecting the unique biodiversity that makes Mauritius unlike anywhere else in the world.

As Meera Appadoo, Sustainability Officer at Emtel, reminds us:
"Every tree planted today is a reminder that the actions we take now help prepare a better future for generations to come."

And as Pascal Fleur, Manager at Currimjee Foundation, aptly puts it: "We are not just planting trees; we are building a legacy that protects the water resources and climate resilience our island depends on. This is a shared journey where every stakeholder's contribution as a steward of the land is essential. We don't just plant; we care, we nurture, and we grow together."

Because sustainability is not measured by the commitments we make, but by the actions we consistently take.

๐Ÿ’š Together, we're restoring ecosystems, strengthening resilience, and helping shape a greener future for generations to come.

๐Ÿค– Everyone is talking about ChatGPT, Claude and Geminiโ€ฆ

But thereโ€™s another AI assistant many people are already using every day without even realising its full potential: Microsoft Copilot.

What makes Copilot so powerful is that it works directly within the tools many of us use daily: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Instead of switching between applications, AI support is available right where work happens.

Recently, colleagues from Currimjee Corporate Office, Emtel and Quality Beverages Limited (QBL) came together for a hands-on Microsoft Copilot training session delivered by CINF.

Led by Gaurav Reesaul, the session focused on practical ways to use AI productively in the workplace, helping participants move beyond basic prompting to real business applications.

Some of the areas explored included:
โœ… Summarising emails, documents and meeting discussions
โœ… Managing tasks and priorities more efficiently
โœ… Creating content and extracting insights faster
โœ… Using Copilot across Microsoft 365 applications
โœ… Building and customising AI agents to support specific business needs

What stood out most was the enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness of participants to explore new ways of working and learning.

A big thank you to Gaurav and the CINF team for delivering such an engaging session, and to everyone from Currimjee, Emtel and QBL who took part.

How are you using AI today? Let us know in the comments. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Think about the last time you swam in a lagoon in Mauritius. ๐ŸŒŠ

Now imagine helping bring one back to life.

That is what is happening at La Cambuse, where a four-year coral farming project running from 2023 to 2027 is restoring a degraded lagoon and the marine life that depends on it. Behind it: the Currimjee Foundation, PADI, MOL, Constance IKO Hotel, Eco Mode Society and the British High Commission.

What makes it special is who does the work.

Through the Dollar for Deeds programme, hotel guests contribute one dollar per night, and many go further by getting into the water and taking part in coral farming themselves. Visitors stop being observers. They leave behind something that keeps growing long after they fly home.

And alongside them, Mauritian children. To date, 35 schools and 2,117 students have taken part in the awareness and educational sessions, learning how reefs work, why they are disappearing, and what it takes to bring them back. For many of them, it is the first time the lagoon they have swum in all their lives actually makes sense.

Reefs take years to recover. But stewardship is built in a single afternoon, when a child understands that the lagoon in front of their village is theirs to protect.

Healthier reefs mean more fish, better protection of the coast against erosion, and an island that keeps what makes it beautiful.

This World Nature Conservation Day on 28 July, a reminder that protecting the ocean is not the job of scientists alone. It belongs to all of us who call this island home. ๐Ÿ’™

Tag someone who loves the sea. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Speaking at the first training session of the NextGen Conservation Project, launched by Baker Tilly Mauritius, Ravi Luckhun, Environment & Sustainability Manager at Currimjee Group, shared practical insights with young environmental advocates on how businesses can play a meaningful role in building a more sustainable future.

Initiated through Green Analytics in collaboration with Saska Consulting and the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), the initiative aims to strengthen the knowledge and capabilities of emerging conservation leaders through a series of capacity-building sessions focused on sustainability, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and ecosystem restoration.

Drawing on his experience in advancing environmental and sustainability initiatives, Ravi encouraged participants to look beyond theory and understand how organisations can create lasting impact by:

๐Ÿ€ Embedding sustainability into business decisions and everyday operations.
๐Ÿ€ Harnessing nature-based solutions to build resilience and create long-term value.
๐Ÿ€ Recognising that environmental stewardship is not only the right thing to do, but also a strategic business imperative.

Remember your graduation day? That mix of relief, pride and butterflies about what comes next? ๐ŸŽ“

Last Wednesday, more than 500 students lived exactly that at the Trianon Convention Centre, receiving their degrees from Middlesex University Mauritius. Graduates from Mauritius and around the world, all of whom chose this island and its vibrant student community as the place to study, grow and belong.

The Currimjee Group was there to celebrate with them, as sponsor of the Outstanding Graduate Award, Class of 2026. Two exceptional students, in BA Business Management (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and BA Business Management (Marketing), received their shields from Iqbal Oozeer, Managing Director of the Group, in a hall full of emotion and cheers.

For the Currimjee Group, moments like these are part of a much bigger commitment, an ongoing conversation with the student world, from generation to generation. Through job fairs and campus meetups at Middlesex University and other tertiary institutions, the Group listens to how young people think, what they need, and welcomes them through internships to give them an immersive experience of the workplace they are about to enter.

Because yesterday's graduates are tomorrow's colleagues, leaders and changemakers. ๐Ÿ’™

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! You earned it. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡บ
