Job Title: Farm Manager
Location: Mangochi, TA Nankumba Location
Reports To: Farm Owner/Director

About the Farm:
With instructions from our client, KIC will be recruiting a Farm Manager. The farm which is located in Mangochi is a diversified agricultural operation focused on sustainable crop production ( maize, soybeans, groundnuts) and livestock farming (cattle, pigs, chickens, goats). The farm is committed to efficient practices and high-quality outputs.
Job Summary:
The Farm Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, management, and oversight of all crop production and livestock farming activities. This role requires a hands-on leader who can ensure operational efficiency, maximize productivity, maintain animal health and welfare, manage farm resources effectively, and implement best agricultural practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Crop Production Management:
* Oversee all aspects of crop cultivation, including land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and harvesting.
* Develop and implement crop rotation plans, soil health management strategies, and sustainable farming practices.
* Monitor crop health and growth, identify potential issues, and implement timely corrective actions.
* Manage irrigation systems and water resources efficiently.
* Ensure proper storage and handling of crops post-harvest.
* Maintain accurate records of crop yields, inputs, and costs.
Livestock Management:
* Manage daily care and feeding of all livestock, ensuring proper nutrition and health.
* Implement animal health programs, including vaccination, deworming, and disease prevention.
* Monitor animal welfare, identify signs of illness or distress, and administer first aid or seek veterinary attention as needed.
* Oversee breeding programs and herd management.
* Ensure proper housing, hygiene, and waste management for all livestock.
* Maintain accurate records of animal inventory, health treatments, and production data.
General Farm Management:
* Develop and manage the farm's annual budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
* Procure necessary farm inputs (seeds, fertilizers, feed, veterinary supplies, equipment parts) in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Manage farm equipment and machinery, ensuring regular maintenance and repairs.
* Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate farm staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
* Implement and enforce farm safety protocols and procedures.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date farm records, including production data, financial transactions, and inventory.
* Monitor market trends and advise on optimal production strategies.
* Ensure compliance with relevant agricultural regulations and standards in Malawi.
* Prepare regular reports on farm performance for the Farm Owner/Director.
Qualifications:
* Education:
Diploma in Agriculture or a related field with demonstrated relevant experience.
* Experience:
* Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in managing a diversified farm operation, including both crop production and livestock farming.
* Proven experience in managing farm staff and resources.
Skills & Attributes:
* Strong knowledge of crop production cycles, soil management, pest control, and irrigation techniques.
* Solid understanding of animal husbandry, health, nutrition, and welfare for relevant livestock species.
* Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Strong organizational and planning skills.
* Proficiency in record-keeping and basic farm accounting.
* Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment is an added advantage
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, basic farm management software a plus).
* Valid driver's license (preferably for farm vehicles/tractors) is an added advantage
* Willingness to live on or near the farm and work flexible hours as required by farming seasons.
