Yesterday, Migration and Society (MASO) participated as a partner in “Unlocking the 2026 National Youth Summit,” held at St. John’s Hall in Mzuzu and organised by the Mzuzu City Youth Network.

The engagement brought together young people and youth-led organisations to reflect on the National Youth Summit held in Lilongwe last month, sharing key lessons, experiences, and opportunities arising from the summit.

The sessions explored the opportunities unlocked through the summit, the importance of networking among young people, and the need for meaningful youth participation in sectors such as agriculture and mining.

A key message to young people was to stop waiting for opportunities and instead take the initiative to create them. As leaders of today, young people have a vital role to play in driving innovation, creating opportunities, and contributing to Malawi’s development.

MASO was represented by Grace Gondwe, Communications Officer, who attended the engagement on behalf of the organisation.

Yesterday, Migration and Society (MASO) had the pleasure of welcoming a team from Pakaya Initiative for a partnership engagement meeting.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share more about MASO, our programmes, and the work we do, while exploring potential areas of collaboration and partnership.

The discussions were productive and highlighted opportunities for both organisations to work together towards creating meaningful and lasting impact in the communities we serve.

The meeting concluded with a group photo, marking a positive step towards strengthening collaboration and building a shared commitment to community development.

Yesterday, Migration and Society joined young people, government representatives, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, development partners, and community members at Katoto Ground in Mzuzu to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Peace.

The day began with a Peace Walk from Mzuzu Clock Tower to Katoto Ground, followed by peace declarations, youth-led activities, and messages calling for greater unity, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence.

Held under the global theme “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” this year’s commemoration locally focused on “Empowering Youths as Agents of Peace, Unity and Socioeconomic Transformation.”

As Migration and Society, we were proud to participate in this important commemoration and stand alongside diverse stakeholders in promoting peace, unity, inclusion, and positive social transformation.

The message from the day was clear: peace is everyone’s responsibility.

Together, we can build communities where diversity is respected, young people are empowered, and everyone has a role to play in creating a peaceful and inclusive Malawi.

Peace starts with all of us.

THE MZUZU WE WANT: Community Dialogue

Migration and Society (MASO) was represented today by our Youth Empowerment Project Officer, Kingdom Chavinda, at a community dialogue on community philanthropy and community-led development organised by Do your part initiative at Ungweru Organisation.

The dialogue brought together 29 stakeholders to share experiences, learn from one another, and reflect on how communities can identify opportunities, mobilise local resources, and take the lead in addressing the challenges they face.

As an organisation committed to youth empowerment and community development, MASO believes that meaningful change starts when communities are given the space, voice, and opportunity to lead solutions that respond to their own needs.

We are proud to be part of conversations shaping the Mzuzu we want: a city where communities are empowered, engaged, and actively involved in creating a better future.

Migration and Society (MASO) is inviting passionate, committed and motivated individuals to join its team of volunteers in the following positions:

1. Resource Mobilization Volunteers – 2 positions

2. Economic Empowerment Project Officer – 1 position

3. Education Assistant Project Officer – 1 position

Applicants should have strong communication and teamwork skills, report writing and documentation abilities, computer literacy, creativity, initiative and a commitment to community development and social change.

Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants from Mzuzu, Luwinga and surrounding areas have an added advantage.

Yesterday, Migration and Society (MASO) visited Chideso Youth Club under the direction of Mzuzu City Youth Network for an engaging financial literacy session.

The session was successful, interactive, and focused on equipping young people with practical knowledge about financial management, saving, budgeting, and making informed financial decisions.

This initiative is part of MASO’s commitment to youth empowerment. At MASO, we believe that young people have the potential to create positive change and build a better future. Sometimes, what is needed is not just resources, but a mindset change, knowledge, and the right opportunities.

Accountability Starts With Us

On Friday, 14 August, Ethel Nyondo, representing Migration and Society (MASO), had the opportunity to attend a panel discussion at Mzuzu University’s American Corner, focused on accountability and civil responsibility. The discussion was organized by Umunthu LEAD.

The panel highlighted that accountability means being answerable for our actions and decisions. It must be built on honesty and start from the grassroots. As citizens, it is our responsibility to hold our leaders accountable and take an active role in promoting good governance.

The discussion also explored how ignorance, corruption, and limited civic education contribute to the misuse of public resources.

At MASO, we believe informed and active citizens are key to building communities where accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership thrive.

This afternoon, MASO participated in a Partnership Meeting on Community Philanthropy held at Mphatso Motel and organised by the Do Your Part Initiative (DYPI), with support from Mudzi Fund.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from across Mzuzu to discuss strengthening community-led development through meaningful partnerships. A key highlight was DYPI's new approach, which shifts from identifying problems first to engaging communities from the very beginning—from the idea stage through to implementation.

The discussions also emphasized that accountability should extend beyond donors to include community members, recognising that their voices, participation, and ownership are essential even when they have not contributed financially or in kind.

Together, we can build stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable communities by putting people at the centre of development.

Migration and Society (MASO) Commemorates World Day Against Trafficking in Persons at Lupaso Community

Today, Migration and Society (MASO) joined the global community in commemorating World Day Against Trafficking in Persons by conducting a human trafficking awareness campaign at Lupaso Community in Mzuzu.

The awareness session educated community members on the causes, warning signs, and dangers of human trafficking, while promoting safe migration and empowering participants with knowledge on how to prevent and report trafficking cases. Special emphasis was placed on protecting women, children, and young people, who are among the most vulnerable to exploitation.

Community members were encouraged to remain vigilant and work closely with traditional leaders, local authorities, and relevant institutions to identify and report suspected trafficking cases.

The Ward Councillor, traditional leaders, and community members commended MASO for the initiative, saying the awareness session had equipped them with valuable knowledge to recognize trafficking risks, avoid exploitation, and help build a safer community.
