Glad to announce the completion of the Copyright Fund supported Project. You will recall that in 2023, EKA Language Services recieved a grant from the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) to translate the Copyright Act and other COSOMA documents into Chichewa as one way of promoting universal access to copyright information among artists in Malawi. The project also had an English-Chichewa glossary compilation component.

A draft copy of the translated Act, a draft copy of the English-Chichewa glossary of copyright terms and several other translated documents were formally handed over to the Copyright Fund Manager, Blessings Botha, awaiting the final steps for validation and publication.

This page will provide updates when the glossary and the Chichewa Act are ready for wider use.

Big thanks to Evans Lwara and Yamikani Masina for utilising their lexicographic and translation expertise, respectively, to complete this vital project.

In our latest lexicographic project, we are helping the Aids Vaccine Advocacy Coalition (AVAC), a US-based non-profit, compile a multilingual glossary of health (HIV and Aids) terminology.

This is a multinational project, being implemented in five countries (Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Uganda). The initial phase involves two languages in each country, Chichewa and Chitumbuka in Malawi. Owing to EKA Language Services' experience in the industry and the quality of the proposal that we submitted, AVAC appointed us to Coordinate the Project in all the five countries.

The glossaries will be availabale at AVAC's website (avac.org) and are expected to improve access to health information among those who rely on indeginous languages for their daily communication needs. Journalists and health education practioners will also find these resources increasingly helpful.

We are EKA Language Services, the official language consultant for Illovo Sugar Malawi Ltd - We do document translation into and from any Malawian language; we do editing and proofreading; we do transcription; we develop multilingual glossaries; we conduct linguage research; and we tutor Malawian languages and English for communication purposes.

Today, the Copyright Fund Manager and COSOMA Auditor paid EKA Language Services Mw a visit to appreciate progress on the Translation and Glossary project. Tremendous progress has been registered. We will soon be validating the documents before the bilingual glossary manuscript undergoes the publication process.
