The packages look convincing. Plates. A wallet-sized registration card. A pedimento. Sometimes a real invoice. People check one document, it looks fine, and they stop checking.
That is the design.

𝟭. 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗤𝗥 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲.
A real government QR lands on a web address ending in 𝗴𝗼𝗯.𝗺𝘅. If it lands anywhere else — a QR generator site, a photo host, anything — you have your answer in ten seconds.
𝟮. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱.
The pedimento describes the merchandise. Your VIN should be on it. If it says corn, or a light pole, or anything that is not your car, stop.
𝟯. 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗩𝗜𝗡 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗨𝗩𝗘.
Free, public, takes a minute. Look at 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 at the bottom. We recently pulled one that came back flagged 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗥. That is the federal government telling you the registration is not trusted.
𝟰. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁.
REPUVE shows the company that entered your vehicle. It should be the same importer named on your pedimento. On the one we reviewed, it was a completely unrelated company.

⚠️ 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗬
A fake import does not leave you where you started. It leaves you worse off.
A vehicle can only be permanently registered one time. Once a false registration is sitting on your VIN, a legitimate import cannot be filed until that entry is cleared — and clearing it is not fast or simple.
You are also driving a foreign vehicle with no valid import document. Under 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝟭𝟬𝟯 of the Código Fiscal de la Federación, a foreign vehicle found outside the border zone without proper customs documentation is presumed contraband. That is how vehicles end up PERMANENTLY in the impound corralón.
Losing 30,000 pesos is the small part.

✅ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡
Before you pay anyone a balance, ask for the pedimento number and verify it yourself. Anyone doing honest work will hand it over without hesitation. Anyone who won't is telling you something.
If you already paid and something feels off, get it checked before you drive it again. We look at these for a nominal fee.

🐈 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝘁𝘆
She's a 1991 Ford Aerostar. The paint gave up years ago. The front bumper is holding on out of pure stubbornness. Half the tires won't keep air overnight.
She also starts every single time — rebuilt motor, rebuilt transmission.

🔵 𝗪𝗵𝘆 "𝗞𝗶𝘁𝘁𝘆"
At our storage lot, every wild cat in the neighborhood claims her roof. It's the best seat on the street — shade, height, and a full view of anything worth watching. They were here before she got a name, so she got theirs.
🔵 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
A follower of this page offered her to us. She'd used the van for farmers' markets and was finished with it. It sat at our lot and, honestly, none of us had driven it once until yesterday morning — when we took it to Jalisco verification.
We picked her on purpose. When we test a new process, we test it on our own metal. Not on your 4Runner. Not on your CR-V. Not on a vehicle you'd be sick about losing.
If this had gone wrong, we'd have lost an ugly van somebody gave us. That is the entire point of choosing her.
🔵 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀
She passed. Clean.
Kitty was imported remotely — nobody drove her to the border, nobody stood in line at a crossing. Then she went in front of the Jalisco Fiscalía for physical verification, which is the step that actually checks the paperwork against the vehicle at the federal level.
No questions. No problems. No extra requests.
Next step is registration here in Jalisco. Once she has plates on her, the loop is closed.
Next up: tires, shocks, and a bumper that isn't held together by optimism.

Both were tired of the same loop — a card that expires, another fee, do it again. Jalisco plates are permanent. Physical verification, proper paperwork, done legally from start to finish with our assistance.

We test on our own vehicles before we offer anything to a client. This one was imported remotely — no trip to the border — and today it goes through Jalisco verification to confirm it earns state plates.
🔵 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿
Unlike the regularización program that ended, this one does not appear to be limited by where the vehicle was built. That opens the door to a lot of what people here actually drive — the 4Runners, the CR-Vs, and other Japanese and Korean models.
We are still confirming the edges of the rules, and we expect answers within a week or two. We will not tell you your vehicle qualifies until we know it does.

Here's why it still works. A scanner defeats electronics. It does nothing about a steel bar bolted across your steering wheel. That's a saw, noise, and minutes they don't have — so they walk to the next vehicle in the lot that has nothing on it.

Pat's back! Oh my it's hot compared to the Pacific Northwest! But we didn't get burned at the airport because we had an PVR permitted Uber driver that picked us up. Nice guy from Veracruz named Marco. I'll share his WhatsApp here below in the comments for people looking to be picked up or dropped off from the airport. His prices were very reasonable compared to the airport taxis and his newer Avanza held 4 checked and 4 carry-ons plus backpacks!

With Honda and Toyota car thefts up in Bahía de Banderas, here's the cheapest thing you can do this week.

Put an AirTag or GPS tracker in your vehicle. 🚙
We know someone whose family member had their vehicle stolen and located it with an AirTag — authorities were given the position and the car was recovered. That's before it got parted out, or given a new set of fake fins and fake paperwork and sold to some unsuspecting buyer.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗯, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.
🔹 Bury it. Down inside a side panel where you'll never fish it out again is a feature, not a problem.
🔹 Hang it deep on a string, tuck it under a seat base, inside a headliner.
🔹 Battery life runs about a year (standard CR2032) — set a phone reminder to swap it.
🔹 Some owners look up how to quiet the speaker on their own tag so it's harder to find. Plenty of walkthroughs on YouTube. Your vehicle, your call.
𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 ⚠️
1️⃣ An AirTag is not a real GPS unit. It reports its position by borrowing nearby Apple devices — great in town, weak on an empty back road. A dedicated GPS tracker with its own SIM is more reliable. Some people run both.
2️⃣ 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. Give the location to the authorities. A vehicle is replaceable. You aren't.

The Dirección de Seguridad Ciudadana y Tránsito of Bahía de Banderas has issued an alert over a rise in Honda and Toyota thefts, mainly these models:
🔹 Honda CR-V
🔹 Honda HR-V
🔹 Honda Accord
🔹 Honda Civic
🔹 Toyota RAV4
Thieves are using scanners and specialized electronic devices to get around factory security and start the vehicle without the original key. No broken glass. No alarm. No noise.
Weeks earlier, the Nayarit Attorney General reported two arrests tied to a vehicle theft ring operating between Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta — investigated in at least four Honda thefts using electronic equipment. Good news, but the municipal alert makes it clear the problem hasn't stopped.

Hey everyone! Sincere greetings from Detroit Lake, Oregon! We're looking forward to our return and have been in contact with our insurance agent, Emma from Puerto Iguana by the Naval Hospital. The trick that she taught me a while back, always check to see if getting a new policy is cheaper than renewing the existing policy. In this case, for my CRV, it was 11% cheaper to get a new policy!

I just wanted to pass the tip on to you, and if anybody wants a very capable and reliable insurance broker, we would recommend Emma at Puerta Iguana. She offers various companies (Chubby, Qualitas, AXA among others).
