Happy 10th

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the ACIEE 28th Colloquium on International Engineering Education, the first time this event was hosted in Texas!

What made it truly special was the chance to contribute in multiple roles:
✅ Organizing Team Member
✅ Session Chair
✅ Presenter – sharing my work on “IRAP: A Binational Model for Early Undergraduate Engagement in Global Research.”

This experience was both exciting and rewarding, as I connected with inspiring colleagues from universities across the U.S. and internationally to advance global engineering education.

A heartfelt thank you to all attendees—administrators, faculty, researchers, and students—for making this colloquium such a collaborative space. Special appreciation to the Halliburton Engineering Global Programs and the College of Engineering teams for their support, and kudos to Maria Alves for her outstanding leadership in bringing this event to life.

Looking forward to continuing these conversations and creating more opportunities for global engagement in engineering education!

Cheers to 2 Years! 🎉

Today marks my two-year anniversary with the Halliburton Engineering Global Programs Office at Texas A&M University College of Engineering , and what an era it's been!

The past year has been absolutely crazy, a whirlwind of intense work, complex challenges, but genuinely so much fun!

We've been celebrating a huge milestone: a decade of the Introduction to Research Abroad Program ( ), continuing to build those vital connections with Mexico. Tons of events with our global students, advising activities, work with global companies, trainings and new projects.

But personally, the most rewarding part has been getting back into the classroom. There is truly nothing like the energy of teaching, and having the opportunity to directly contribute to the future of my students is something I deeply love. Seeing that moment of connection when they grasp a concept, or when they start to view global engineering challenges through a new lens, is pure fuel. It's a privilege to help shape the next generation of Aggie engineers.

My sincere thanks go out to the incredible HEGP team and my network of family, friends, colleagues and also flurry friends, for their amazing support. We got through this dynamic year, and now, I can't wait to share that even greater things are coming up soon! Stay tuned!

Here some of the behind the scenes moments of this 2nd year.

Looking forward to what we'll accomplish in Year 3!

Back to the Classroom – and it feels great!

I realized I hadn’t shared this yet (these past couple of months have been hectic!), but I’m thrilled to say that I’m back in the classroom as a professor after a 2-year pause.

This time, I’ve jumped into a whole new adventure, teaching in a different country and within a completely different educational system! It’s definitely a challenge, but one I’m embracing with full heart and passion. I’m proud to share that I’m currently teaching the Engineering Learning Community & Student Success Seminar at one of the top-tier engineering colleges in the U.S. Texas A&M University , and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of this incredible academic community!

It’s been a fantastic experience so far, helping undergraduate students transition from high school to college, and contributing to their growth as future engineers. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journey and to share knowledge that hopefully makes a difference.

Here’s to new beginnings, meaningful work, and the joy of teaching again!

Celebrating 10 Years of IRAP … and the successful close of the 2025 edition!

Last week, we wrapped up the Closing Workshop of the Introduction to Research Abroad Program  in  , marking the end of an incredible journey for our 2025 cohort, and the beginning of the next chapter.

From August 24–31, we had the honor of hosting 16 students and 4 faculty members from Yucatan institutions. During their time in Texas, they visited participating colleges at Texas A&M University; Explored graduate opportunities, and connected with TAMU researchers and professors;  Experienced Texan culture and history in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston; visited amazing places such as NASA; and also attended a football game and learned about Aggie traditions

This year is extra special as we celebrate 10 years of IRAP, a program that began as ELCIR and has grown into a vibrant bridge between Yucatan and Texas A&M, fostering global research, cultural exchange, and lifelong friendships.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this edition possible:

Our partners in Yucatan — host institutions, SIIDETEY, and the Yucatan Government

The Texas A&M colleges and departments that welcomed our guests

The amazing host families who made everyone feel at home, either while in Merida and here in College Station.

All the students and faculty who brought energy, curiosity, and collaboration to the program

A special shoutout to the Halliburton Engineering Global Programs Office team, for all your dedication and hard work that made this another successful IRAP edition!

As we close , we open the door to  !
To our 2025 participants, we encourage you to become ambassadors of the program, continue your research journey, and maybe take the next step with an internship next summer?

And of course, we invite students from Yucatan and Texas A&M to be part of this unique experience and join

Let’s keep building bridges through research, culture, and global collaboration.

I am thrilled to share that Texas A&M Engineering is having summer interns in Yucatan! This marks the inaugural occasion where our College of Engineering has sent students to Yucatan for summer internships. We are starting with three Aggies who will be working until mid-August at Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán UADY and Universidad Anáhuac Mayab.

This is just the beginning, as we expect to send a larger cohort next year. Additionally, we aim to create a bridge to bring Yucatan students to Texas A&M for internships.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this possible, both from TAMU and the host institutions. Special thanks to the academic advisors hosting these three Aggies.

To our three pioneering students, I wish you the best of success. Remember, you are our ambassadors, and it's up to you to keep these doors wide open for future Aggies joining you.

As part of the Introduction to Research Abroad Program (IRAP), I had the wonderful opportunity to return to the radio station where my communications career began. It was an incredible experience to step back into that cabin, this time on the other side of the microphone, to talk about IRAP.

Being back brought back a flood of memories, and it was heartwarming to reconnect with some of my old colleagues. A special shoutout to Brenda, who is now the director of the station. Thank you for having us, Brenda Sanchez! It was great to see you, and I know you will do everything on your side to make 92.9 FM a top station in the area. Yucatán 92.9 FM

This visit was not just about sharing the success of IRAP but also about revisiting a place that holds a special place in my heart. It was a great blend of professional engagement and personal nostalgia.

Celebrating 10 Years of IRAP!

Over the past few weeks, I had the incredible opportunity to return to my hometown, Yucatan, Mexico, for another successful edition of the Introduction to Research Abroad Program (IRAP). This year is particularly special as we celebrate 10 years since the program's inception as the Engineering Learning Community Introduction to Research (ELCIR).

We are hosting 49 students from Texas A&M (), representing the Colleges of Arts and Sciences (), Agriculture and Life Sciences (), and Engineering (). They are collaborating with 20 Yucatan students from and , guided by eight faculty members (four from TAMU and four from Yucatan), and supported by over 150 researchers, technicians, and staff from institutions.

This program holds a special place in my heart as it bridges my hometown, Yucatan, with my professional life at Texas A&M. Having been part of the program from various perspectives, I am now proud to be part of the Texas A&M team. This time in Yucatan was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends, visit organizations that are integral to my personal and professional life, and showcase the beauty of Yucatan to our Aggies. I also cherished the time spent with my family.

While this marks the close of this phase, the program continues, and we are excited to host the Yucatan delegation in Aggieland this August for the program's closing week.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been involved in this program since 2015. A special shoutout to the Yucatan Government, all participating institutions, faculty, researchers, staff, and, of course, the students from Texas A&M University and from those members of SIIDETEY.

A very special thank you to four individuals who have gone above and beyond since the beginning: Zenon Medina, Maria Alves, Sonia Garcia, and Ricardo Bello. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in making this program a success.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Here's to many more years of global engagement and collaboration! 🌍
