In 1957, when the shouts of Merdeka! filled the air of Stadium Merdeka, it was more than the end of colonial rule — it was the beginning of Malaysia’s right to stand tall, to decide her own path, and to claim her destiny.
That independence was won on the soil of our nation, with the courage of our people.
Today, a new battlefield has emerged. It is no longer fought with bayonets or ballots, but with algorithms and data. The colonizers are no longer foreign troops, but foreign clouds. They do not march on our streets—they live inside our systems.
This is the age of digital colonialism. Nations and corporations rent intelligence from foreign giants, trading sovereignty for convenience.
Decisions that define our industries, our security, and even our culture are made in servers we do not own, by code we cannot see.
If Merdeka was about owning our land, AI sovereignty is about owning our mind. Without it, our future will be subcontracted, our people reduced to passengers in someone else’s machine.
Like Tunku’s proclamation, we raise the flag once more: to rewire industries, fortify nations, and build an intelligence that carries our values, our culture, and our power.
