Navigating Dementia: Awareness, Care, Hard Decisions & Support - Online Forum
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that around 8.5% of older adults, or roughly 260,000 people in Malaysia, are living with dementia. Dementia in Malaysia is a growing public health concern, with projections estimating up to 560,000 patients by 2030 and 825,000 by 2050, as the country becomes a super-aged nation. This has led the Ministry of Health to launch the Dementia Action Plan 2023–2030 to boost awareness, support, and care.
Many of us are at a stage in life where we have aging parents or grandparents. As dementia is a progressive disease, individuals may, over time, require increasing support in their daily activities. We also need to consider how we can navigate the dementia journey as caregivers and prepare ourselves should we or our loved ones be affected.
The St. Mary’s KL Alumni Club will be hosting an online forum, “Navigating Dementia: Awareness, Care, Hard Decisions & Support,” featuring Jennifer Soh from Managedcare, on 14 January 2026, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. This session aims to raise awareness about dementia and provide guidance on how to better support our loved ones.
In this session, we will discuss:
• Early recognition, disease progression, and caregiving strategies
• Navigating difficult decisions related to treatment, safety, and long-term care
• Support resources and caregiver self-care essentials
This online forum will be conducted via Zoom and is open to both Alumni Club members and the public.
Registration is free, and everyone is welcome.
