“So, what happens is that we have trained people, we have sent our staffs to be trained at least to use the software. But when they come back, the competency level is not there, because they only know on how to use the software, they don’t know on how to apply it into their projects. That is one of the biggest problems. The subsequent to that, when they are trained, they come back, and they cannot apply it into their project”
Here are some issues that have been raised out during the recent Revit Architecture workshop that I have conducted. So here I wanted to share a few important insights I have made to implement Revit into the architecture workflow.
1. Office Standards. Establishing office standards early on is critical.
Set all the parameters on the Wall types that your company uses the most
Family creation on your top few doors and windows and include those in the project template.
Standard presentation and construction document title block
Setup your standard room, door, window and hardware schedules
Build a standard legend for wall, window and door types.
The idea is not to include everything but to include the items that can be automated and that are used over and over again. If you work on a large variety of different project types, consider multiple templates, different ones for each project type.
2. Small Steps. Small project is a good idea. Not something too small though, but a real project.
3. Do NOT train people that are NOT going to use Revit in the near future. But DO make sure all the staff get a good OVERVIEW class to familiarise themselves with the overall concepts on the Revit workflow.
4. Make sure your boss sees the VALUE. Revit is NOT the goal. Revit is simply the tool to achieve the goals!
