CONSTRUCTION - CONSULTANTS/TRAINERS -RUNNING OUT OF ASSIGNMENTS/JOBS?

Many experienced professionals have invested substantial amounts in professional memberships, certifications, registrations, training and CPD.

That matters but there is another reality we must recognise.

Projects have budgets. Projects move. And projects have an end date.

Consultancy scopes may reduce as a project approaches completion, handover and close-out, while contractors may continue their responsibilities through DLP. This means experienced consultants, trainers, auditors and assessors can find themselves searching for the next assignment despite having decades of valuable knowledge.

This is where real construction experience matters.

Clients don't just need someone who understands standards, certificates or textbooks. They need people who understand the actual flow of construction - planning, design, procurement, mobilisation, site activities, methodology, quality, safety, testing, commissioning, handover and defects.

Who understands that flow better than people who have actually been part of construction?

Many trainers, consultants, assessors and advisors I respect come from construction backgrounds. They have been on sites and dealt with contractors, subcontractors, authorities, drawings, specifications, programmes, variations, delays and defects.
You cannot learn all of that from a certificate alone.

This is one reason QHSEL Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. pools together professionals of all ages across PM, C & S, M & E, OSH, Quality, Environment, ESG, systems and methodology whilst collaborating with many professional institutions including various CBs.

Our philosophy is simple: When one person gets the cake, share it with others.

If one party gets the main consultancy appointment, opportunities can be created for specialists through appropriate sub-services.

Rather than everyone fighting for the whole cake, let more people have a meaningful slice.

The industry is changing fast. BIM, automation & AI are transforming design, documentation, quantities & project management.

But someone still needs to ask:

Is it safe? Compliant? Constructible? Practical?

The future is not about competing alone. It is about combining experience, technology, integrity and collaboration.

But there is also a responsibility: trainers and consultants must maintain professional integrity and stay completely away from bribery, kickbacks or any improper influence in construction. (Trust me : The industry has its way of "blacklisting" you - we talked through the network - we know who is a player and who is not - so be careful) Opportunities should be earned through competence, trust and fair practice not through connections or corrupt practices.

Met with a business entity to discuss strategies for business expansion. The original discussion focused on key areas that form the foundation of sustainable growth (see slide)

As the discussion progressed, the conversation naturally shifted towards IPO readiness and the aspiration of becoming a listed company. (I later reminded them, without early business strategies of sustainable growth which is the original topic of presentation, don't run too fast towards IPO)

It was encouraging to see such ambition and enthusiasm. However, I shared the view that we should take it one step at a time.

Many organisations perceive an IPO primarily as a financial exercise or a regulatory requirement. In reality, an IPO whether through the LEAP, ACE, or Main Market is a business transformation journey that requires much more than preparing a prospectus.

A successful listing requires strong foundations, including:

• A clear business strategy and growth roadmap
• Strong corporate governance structures
• Effective enterprise risk management
• Robust internal controls and compliance frameworks
• Reliable financial reporting systems
• Legal and regulatory readiness
• Capable leadership and organisational capability

Equally important is the establishment of an internal IPO steering committee to coordinate the various workstreams and engage effectively with the Principal Adviser, legal advisers, reporting accountants, auditors, and other professional advisers.

A prospectus is not merely a document describing financial performance. It should demonstrate the company's strategic direction, business model, governance maturity, operational capabilities, key risks, and long-term value proposition. Without the necessary foundations, the prospectus may not fully reflect the organisation's readiness for the public market.

Today's discussion reinforced an important lesson:

Before asking, "How do we get listed?", organisations should first ask, "Are we truly IPO-ready?"

An IPO is not simply about listing shares. It is about building an organisation that earns confidence from investors, regulators, employees, and all stakeholders.

The journey to the market begins long before the listing day, it begins with building the right.

HOW ALL CASE STUDIES AND ARTICLES ARE PRODUCED

Please note that the case studies and articles I share on topics relating to civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, construction, economics, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, ESG, standards, codes of practice, and other related disciplines are not produced in isolation.

QHSEL Consultancy is supported by an advisory panel and an extensive network of trusted friends, industry practitioners, professional associations/bodies and subject matter experts who willingly contribute their knowledge, insights, and professional experiences.

This collective includes Professional Engineers with Practising Certificates (PEPC), licensed brokers, economists, academicians, competent persons, auditors, risk assessors, contractors, consultants, clients, enforcement officers, active and former intelligence operatives, IT and cybersecurity specialists, AI practitioners, VR/AR/MR professionals, architects, bankers, Syariah experts, and specialists from various other fields.

As such, this is far from a one-man effort. Behind every article is a panel of experienced professionals who provide guidance, technical input, peer review, and practical perspectives drawn from real-world experience.

Many of these contributors prefer to remain anonymous to protect the confidentiality of projects, organisations, and sensitive information entrusted to them. Their motivation is not recognition, but rather to contribute towards a greater purpose: promoting sound practices, strengthening governance, enhancing compliance, improving industry standards, and reducing deficiencies, non-conformances, and avoidable failures across various sectors.

The views presented are therefore often the result of multidisciplinary collaboration, professional discourse, and collective expertise rather than the opinion of a single individual.

ATTEMPT TO TAKE OVER THE WEBSITE THROUGH SO-CALLED LEGAL MEANS.

Webmasters and administrators should remain vigilant. I recently received an email containing legal-style language and terminology (despite obvious spelling and grammatical errors) falsely claiming ownership of my company’s website and threatening legal action over alleged copyright infringement.

The message is clearly misleading and appears to be part of an intimidation or scam attempt rather than a legitimate legal claim. It is a common tactic used to pressure recipients into panic or compliance. The email has no credible basis, and the assertions made are unsubstantiated. It's a pathetic attempt to takeover your website to spread false and fabricated information.

Upon reviewing the email headers and available technical metadata, I observed suspicious indicators suggesting attempts to obscure its origin (including use of anonymisation tools such as VPN or spoofed routing). The matter, together with the email content and related technical logs/source details, has been escalated and forwarded to the relevant authorities for further review.

Key reminders for website owners and administrators:

a) Do not respond impulsively to threatening or legally worded emails without verification and most importantly do not give any password to them.

b) Always check the legitimacy of claims through proper legal channels or your appointed legal advisor.

c) Inspect email headers and sender credibility, but rely on formal forensic or cybersecurity support for confirmation.

d) Keep records of all communication, including full email headers and attachments.

e) Report suspicious or fraudulent claims to the appropriate regulatory or cybercrime authorities.

In short, not every “legal threat” is genuine some are simply digital intimidation attempts dressed in formal language.
