Recently, a single client called me to resume his financial planning.

A few years ago, he started investing on a monthly basis

Then he changed jobs, moved into a new home with his girlfriend, bought a car. He withdrew some of his investments and paused his monthly investments.

Once things settled down, he called me and said: I want to relook into my investments and I will be bringing my girlfriend along for our meeting.

Many couples start talking about money after marriage or worst never!

When couples discuss their goals, spending habits, investments, and future plans together, they are far more likely to move in the same direction.

Jan 2026 was a heavy month.

Not because of markets…
But because of life.

I saw more hospital admissions than usual.
And one case hit very close to home.

HDU.
Condition improving.
Patient could move.

Doctors asked the nurses, “Why is this patient still here?”

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆

Jan 2026:
Met a client, age 50.
Her question was simple…
“𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀?”

I unpacked her concerns, her lifestyle goals, and gathered all her financial details. Then I went back to do the real work.

Feb 2026:
Presented the plan.
Good news… Yes, you can retire in 5 years by following the plan.

She agreed to immediately start executing—gradually moving her savings from her bank into a more structured investment portfolio.

Because of daily transfer limits, I had to remind her… almost every day 😄

Then suddenly… silence.

No replies.

She wanted a meet up

Mar 2026:
We met again. She shared her concerns — the ongoing Iran war made her uneasy, and she wanted to pause and reassess.
Should she continue or hold on

I went back to the original strategy.
Did a pit stop review of her current portfolio.
Explained how global events like war actually impact (or don’t impact) her investments. I had given her a balanced portfolio.

Clarity replaced fear.
Confidence came back.

We continued the plan.
And she committed to go ahead with a additional monthly auto investment plan

This is what a coach does.

Yes, we agreed on quarterly reviews.
But real life doesn’t happen quarterly.

When something big happens — in the world or in your mind —
we pause, reassess, and realign.

True Story

While going thru my client's financial planning

Women who have given birth understand this best —
after enduring labour pains, we are gifted with the indescribable joy of holding our newborn.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 (Financial Independence, Retire Early),
the focus is often on the numbers —
how much is enough, how fast we can get there, what returns we can achieve.

Important? Absolutely.
But lately, I’ve been reflecting on a deeper question with my clients…

What are you retiring for?

Because true financial independence is more than hitting a number.

It’s about having the freedom to create meaningful memories.
To build traditions with your loved ones.
To be present for the moments that truly matter.
To pass down values, not just wealth.

FIRE gives you the option to stop working.
But what truly matters… is what you choose to start.
