The future workforce expects fairness to be consistent — not conditional on whether the timing is convenient for the business.

Maternity protection under the Employment Act 1955 does not end the moment maternity leave does. If an employee returns with a valid MC arising from her pregnancy and confinement, the statutory protection continues. Terminating her during that window is not a business decision. It is an unlawful dismissal — regardless of how long the team has been stretched or how urgent the vacancy is.

The court will not ask whether you were frustrated. It will ask whether you followed the law.
