📢 SALARY INCREASE SECURED FOR NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE EMPLOYEES! 📢

NAPWU and NANTU are pleased to announce that, following successful negotiations with the National Youth Service (NYS), employees within the Bargaining Unit will receive a 5% across-the-board salary increase for the 2026/2027 financial year.

✅ Salary Adjustment: 5% increase across the board
✅ Effective Date: 01 April 2026
✅ Back Pay: Back pay for April and May 2026 will be paid together with salaries for June 2026

This achievement demonstrates the value of collective bargaining and the unwavering commitment of the unions to improving the salaries and working conditions of workers.

The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) officially elected its WURCOM leadership on 22 May 2026.

Despite the challenges of members being stationed in different locations and not operating from one office space, the process was successfully conducted with both physical and online participation to ensure inclusivity for everyone.

Strong union representation in the workplace is important as it promotes workers’ rights, fair treatment, improved working conditions, better communication with management, and collective protection of employees’ interests. A united workforce creates a stronger and more productive workplace for all.

A big thank you to all members who participated and contributed towards the success of this important exercise. Together we continue to strengthen workers’ representation, unity, and solidarity! ❤️💪🏾

📢 Another successful salary increment 📢

NAPWU is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 2026/2027 Salary and Substantive Negotiations with the Municipal Council of Walvis Bay.

The parties have agreed on:
✅ 5% salary increment across the board
✅ N$200 increase in transport allowance
✅ Measures to address anomaly salary adjustments

The agreement will become effective on 01 July 2026.

✊ Workers’ Day 2026 – Opuwo, Mighty Kunene Region

On the 1st of May 2026, workers from across Namibia gathered at Opuwo to commemorate International Workers’ Day—a day that honors the struggles, sacrifices, and victories of workers worldwide.

This year’s celebration was truly historic, as it brought together government, employers, and trade unions under one platform in a spirit of unity and collaboration. The tripartite approach reflects a shared commitment to improving working conditions, promoting productivity, and strengthening labour relations in Namibia.

The presence of national leadership and various stakeholders reaffirmed the importance of workers as the backbone of our economy. Discussions focused on key issues such as skills development, discipline in the workplace, and cooperation between employers and employees.
As workers, we remain committed to building a fair, inclusive, and progressive working environment for all.

📢 NAPWU Engages Swakopmund Municipality Workers ✊

This morning, NAPWU held a productive meeting with workers of the Swakopmund Municipality.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide feedback and update workers on key matters affecting their working conditions and future:
🔹 Salary Negotiations
🔹 The way forward on the implementation of Job Evaluation and Grading (JEG)
🔹 Ongoing policy review processes

📍 NAPWU in Omaheke – Gobabis Municipality

On 20 April 2026, the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) successfully signed two important policies with the Gobabis Municipality, namely:

✔️ Fixed Overtime Policy
✔️ Industrial Relations Policy
This milestone did not come easy. The process required commitment, patience, and meaningful engagement from all parties involved. Through professionalism and constructive dialogue between the employer, employees, and NAPWU representatives, the policies were successfully concluded and signed.
Employees themselves acknowledged that the journey was challenging, but with the guidance and support of NAPWU, they were able to navigate the process and reach this important achievement.
✊ This is what collective representation looks like — unity, resilience, and progress for workers.
We encourage all workers to remain engaged, informed, and organized. Together, we continue to build stronger workplaces and protect workers’ rights.

📢 Let’s Talk Representation – Know Your Role as a Worker!

Workers often raise concerns about not being properly consulted by NAPWU—but let’s ask an important question:
👉 Do you have a functional Workplace Union Representative Committee (WURCOM) structure at your workplace to represent you?
A WURCOM is your voice at the workplace. It ensures that your concerns, rights, and interests are communicated effectively between employees and the employer through the union. Without it, meaningful consultation becomes difficult. You need to have persons elected from amongst yourselves and the number of employees at your workplace.

🔑 Key Things to Know:
• WURCOM members are elected representatives from among workers at each workplace.
• They act as a bridge between employees, the employer and NAPWU officials/leaders.
• Only NAPWU members are eligible to serve in this structure—this strengthens unity and accountability.
• Members who are eligible to be elected as representatives are only from a meeting constituted by NAPWU members.

📍 Real Example in Action:
From 08–10 April 2026, we engaged with the Walvis Bay Municipality, where workers actively participated in:
✔️ Nominating their representatives
✔️ Voting democratically
✔️ Strengthening their workplace representation
