🔥 AFA SYSTEM TV — THE QUESTION WE MUST ASK OURSELVES
WE WANT GOOD GOVERNANCE… BUT ARE WE READY TO PROTECT WHAT WE RECEIVE? 🇳🇬
Our communities ask government for good roads, electricity, hospitals, schools, water and other public infrastructure.
And rightly so—public resources should serve the people.
But there is another side of the story we must confront.
When electricity infrastructure is vandalised or cables and transformer components are stolen, communities can lose power. NERC held a South-East sensitisation programme in August 2026 specifically on the problem of power-infrastructure vandalism.
When public infrastructure is vandalised, we all pay the price. Recent reports have documented theft and vandalism involving electricity cables, streetlights, bridge materials and other public assets.
And when roads are being constructed, damaged telecommunications infrastructure can also disrupt businesses, banking, hospitals and education. The NCC reported more than 5,000 fibre-cut incidents linked to road construction and related civil works in the first half of 2026.
So the question is:
CAN GOVERNMENT PROVIDE EVERYTHING IF CITIZENS DON'T PROTECT WHAT HAS BEEN PROVIDED?
Government has a responsibility to provide and maintain infrastructure.
Citizens also have a responsibility to protect public property.
Government should be accountable.
Contractors should do quality work.
Officials should be transparent.
And citizens should reject vandalism, theft and destruction.
Because the transformer belongs to the community.
The school belongs to the community.
The hospital belongs to the community.
The road belongs to the community.
Destroying public infrastructure today means making life harder for ourselves tomorrow.
🔥 LET'S START A SERIOUS CONVERSATION:
If your community receives a new road, transformer, school or hospital, what should citizens do to protect it?
