Parboiling of paddy
Parboiling process in which paddy (rice with husk) is partially boiled before milling. It improves rice quality, strength, and nutrition.

-Steps in the Parboiling Process

*Soaking

Clean paddy is soaked in water (usually warm or normal water).
This allows water to enter the grain.
Purpose: Softens the grain and prepares it for heating.

*Steaming (or Boiling)
The soaked paddy is steamed or boiled.
Heat causes the starch inside the grain to gelatinize.
Vitamins and minerals from the husk move into the grain.

* Characteristics of Parboiled Rice (Brief)

Grains are harder and less breakable
More nutritious than raw rice
Slight yellowish color
Less sticky after cooking
