Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu Mourns APC South-West Woman Leader, Yetunde Adesanya

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (OMOYAYI), FNCS, has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of the South-West Zonal Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Arabinrin Yetunde Shakirat Adesanya.

In a condolence message issued on Friday, Senator Salisu described the late APC chieftain as a committed progressive loyalist, courageous political figure, and an exceptional grassroots mobiliser whose passing represents a huge loss to the party, the South-West region, and the nation at large.

According to the Senator, Arabinrin Adesanya devoted her life to serving the progressive movement and remained steadfast in her commitment to the growth and unity of the APC.

“Her death is not just a loss to the Adesanya family or the APC—it is a grievous blow to our party, our region, and indeed our entire nation,” he said.

Senator Salisu noted that he personally witnessed her tireless dedication, political strength, and ability to connect with ordinary people across the South-West communities.

“She was more than a party officer. She was a woman of uncommon courage and a grassroots mobiliser par excellence. She didn’t just talk about change; she laboured for it, often in the shadows, expecting nothing in return,” the statement added.

The lawmaker further described the deceased as a passionate and fearless advocate for women’s inclusion in politics and governance, noting that her contributions to empowering women and strengthening political participation would remain unforgettable.

“She fought daily to ensure that the voices of our mothers, sisters, and daughters were not only heard but counted. Her vacuum will be deeply felt across every political structure we have built,” he stated.

Senator Salisu also described the late APC South-West Woman Leader as a bridge-builder, unifier, and mother figure within the progressive fold.

“We have lost a pillar,” he lamented.

The Senator extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, including her husband, children, relatives, political associates, and members of the APC across the country.

He prayed that Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings, grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give her loved ones the strength to bear the painful loss.

Senator Salisu affirmed that her memory would be honoured through the continued pursuit of inclusive and people-centred governance, which she passionately championed during her lifetime.

Arabinrin Yetunde Shakirat Adesanya reportedly passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

2027: Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu Affirms Candidacy as APC Concludes Primaries with Tinubu’s Ratification

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State concluded its primary elections today ahead of the 2027 general elections, culminating in the overwhelming affirmation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as the party’s presidential flagbearer.

The exercise, held at Ward 10 (Opeji Ward) in the Odeda Local Government Area, drew over 2,000 party faithful, including the lawmaker representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (popularly known as *Omoyayi*).

Speaking at the conclusion of the ward-level exercise, Senator Salisu, FNCS, expressed immense gratitude to party members for what he described as an unprecedented turnout throughout the week-long primary internal processes.

Reflecting on his own successful re-nomination bid which took place on Monday, May 18, 2026, Salisu revealed he secured a landslide victory to clear any lingering doubts about his candidacy.

> "For the avoidance of doubt, this sitting senator, by the grace of God, is also the incoming senator," Salisu declared. "Across the 74 wards on Monday, party members elected me to be their flagbearer with 85,804 votes. This has been officially affirmed by both the state organising committee and the national committee led by His Excellency, Philip Shaibu."

Salisu noted that the 85,000+ votes he secured in the primary alone nearly matched the 100,000 votes that swept him into the Senate during the 2023 general elections, calling the massive turnout a testament to the party's growing strength.

The lawmaker commended the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for providing exemplary leadership that guaranteed a peaceful, transparent, and rancour-free process across all 236 wards in the state, despite the intense nature of the political contests.

Salisu attributed the enthusiasm of the voters to the visible infrastructural developments spearheaded by Governor Abiodun's administration, pointing directly to ongoing road projects connecting the Odeda wards through the Bode Olude and Mawuko axes.

The Senator concluded by characterising the primary outcome as a validating referendum on his first term in office, thanking the constituents of Ogun Central for their steadfast support over the last three years.

With the conclusion of the presidential affirmation today, following the earlier successful primaries for the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly, and Governorship, the Ogun State APC enters the 2027 election cycle with a unified front.

…Says Ogun APC is united, poised for a clean sweep in 2027

ABEOKUTA – Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu Omoyayi, FNCS, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, has congratulated Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi on his emphatic victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election held on 21st May 2026.

In a personally signed statement issued on Friday, 22nd May 2026, Omoyayi described Yayi’s win as “well-deserved” and a clear reflection of the candidate’s visionary leadership, grassroots appeal, and the overwhelming confidence reposed in him by party delegates across Ogun State.

The congratulatory message came just four days after Omoyayi himself secured a landslide re-election as the APC senatorial candidate for Ogun Central in the primary held on 18th May 2026.

“The overwhelming margin of your win is a clear testament to your unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, grassroots appeal, and the immense confidence that our party members and delegates have reposed in you,” Omoyayi said. “It reflects the widespread acceptance of your aspiration to lead Ogun State towards greater prosperity and development.”

The Senator noted that both victories—his own and Yayi’s—speak volumes about the strength, unity, and deep-rooted popularity of the APC across Ogun State. He pledged to work hand-in-hand with the governorship candidate to ensure a clean sweep for the party in all categories during the 2027 General Elections.

“I look forward to working hand-in-hand with you, as we have always done in the Senate, to ensure that Ogun State APC achieves a clean sweep in all categories in 2027,” Omoyayi stated. “The synergy between the Governor of Ogun State (come 2027) and the Senator representing Ogun Central will be pivotal for the infrastructural, economic, and digital transformation of our dear state, especially in the areas of ICT and cybersecurity—a committee I am privileged to chair at the National Assembly.”

The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, described Yayi as “my dear brother and distinguished colleague” and urged him to remain focused ahead of the 2027 general election.

“On to the Government House, Oke-Mosan, and on to victory in 2027!” Omoyayi declared.

The APC governorship primary, held on Thursday, saw Yayi emerge victorious by a wide margin, setting the stage for a fierce contest in the next general election. Political observers say the early show of unity and mutual congratulation among key party leaders signals a consolidated APC ahead of the 2027 polls.
