They had a great product. A solid team. Customers who bought once and never came back.

That was the reality for a sales business that came to me eight months ago. They were doing everything right on the front end — running ads, closing deals, bringing in new customers consistently. But somewhere after the first purchase, something broke down. The relationship just stopped.

No follow-up emails that felt human. No nurture sequence that reminded customers why they chose this business in the first place. Just silence. And in sales, silence is the fastest way to lose someone forever.

The owner told me, "We spend so much energy getting customers in the door, but we have no idea where they go after that."

Because the money was already spent acquiring those customers. The trust was already half-built. All it needed was the right words to keep it alive.

So we got to work.

I wrote an onboarding email sequence that didn't sound like a robot drafted it. It was warm, personal, and reminded every new customer exactly why they made a smart decision choosing this business. Then came a re-engagement series for customers who had gone cold. Not pushy. Not desperate. Just honest copy that gave them a genuine reason to come back.

Within three months, their repeat purchase rate climbed. Customers started replying to the emails. One wrote back saying it was the first time a business had ever made them feel remembered.

That response made the owner cry.

Not because of the numbers, though those improved too. But because their business finally felt like it stood for something beyond closing deals.

Here is what most businesses miss: retention is not a loyalty program or a discount code. It is a conversation. And if you are not having that conversation after the sale, someone else eventually will.

So tell me — after a customer buys from you, what does your follow-up look like? Is it building a relationship, or is it just another receipt in their inbox?

Many businesses struggle with copywriting not because they can't write, but because they don't know who they're writing for.

One of the most important principles of effective copywriting is identifying your target audience. A copy written for university students will differ greatly from one written for CEOs, entrepreneurs, or parents. When you understand your audience's needs, pain points, desires, and language, your message becomes more persuasive and drives higher engagement.

Equally important is the use of the right terminologies. Words have power. The terms you choose can influence customer perception, build trust, and increase conversion rates. For example, words like *

exclusive, proven, limited offer, guaranteed, results-driven, and solution-focused often resonate strongly because they appeal to customer psychology.

Great copywriting isn't just about being creative; it's about communicating the right message to the right people using the right words.

Before writing your next sales copy, ask yourself:

✔️ Who am I speaking to?

✔️ What problem am I solving?

✔️ Which words will connect with my audience?

Remember: The success of your content marketing strategy often depends on how well your copy speaks directly to your audience.

WHY YOUR COPY FAILS WITHOUT A TARGET AUDIENCE 🎯

One of the biggest mistakes many businesses make is trying to sell to everyone.

The truth is simple:

👉 When you write for everyone, you end up connecting with no one.

Imagine selling baby products. The language you use for new mothers will be completely different from the language you use for a teenager looking for gaming accessories. Their needs, emotions, fears, and desires are not the same.

Before writing a single word of copy, ask yourself:

✅ Who am I talking to?
✅ What problem are they facing?
✅ What do they desire most?
✅ What language do they naturally use?
✅ What would make them stop scrolling and pay attention?

A well-written copy is not about sounding intelligent. It's about making the right person feel understood.

The most successful advertisements, sales pages, emails, and social media posts have one thing in common: they speak directly to a specific audience.

For example:

❌ "We offer quality skincare products."

✅ "Tired of spending money on skincare products that don't work? Here's a simple solution designed for oily and acne-prone skin."

Notice the difference?

The second message speaks directly to a particular group of people and addresses a specific pain point.

As a copywriter, your first job isn't writing.

Your first job is understanding the audience.

Once you know who you're talking to, the words become easier to write and far more effective.

If your content isn't generating engagement, inquiries, or sales, the problem may not be your product. It may be that your message is speaking to the wrong audience.

Most people think copywriting is just about writing catchy words.

It is not.

Great copywriting is research before writing.

The best copywriters do not guess.
They study human behavior.
They study emotions.
They study patterns.
They study what makes people stop scrolling and pay attention.

Before writing a single sentence, I ask questions like:

What problem is the audience secretly struggling with?
What language do they naturally use?
What fears stop them from buying?
What result are they truly looking for?
What type of message will make them trust a brand?

This is why some businesses post every day and still get no sales.
They are writing without research.

Research gives copywriting power.
It turns ordinary words into persuasive communication.

When you understand your audience deeply, your content stops sounding random.
Your message becomes intentional.
Your offers become clearer.
Your audience begins to feel understood.

And people buy faster when they feel understood.

The truth is this:

Good writing attracts attention.
Good research creates conversions.

That is the difference between content that gets likes and content that makes money.

If you want your brand to communicate better, attract the right audience, and increase sales through strategic copywriting, you already know who to message.

Most people don’t have a marketing problem.

They have a communication problem.

Because attention is no longer given.
It is earned sentence by sentence.

The harsh truth?

Your audience is not ignoring you because your product is bad.
They’re ignoring you because your message sounds like everybody else.

Safe.
Predictable.
Forgettable.

Great copy does not scream.
It enters the mind quietly…
then refuses to leave.

The best copywriters understand something most people miss:

People do not buy products.
They buy clarity.
They buy emotion.
They buy identity.
They buy the version of themselves your words make them see.

That is why one sentence can outperform a full marketing campaign.

A powerful offer with weak messaging dies in silence.
An average offer with powerful messaging dominates conversations.

Words move markets.
Words build trust.
Words create desire.
Words print money.

So before you ask:
“How do I sell more?”

Ask:
“Does my message make people feel understood?”

Because in today’s world, the brands that win are not the loudest.

They are the clearest.

I almost lost the opportunity that later changed my life. Years back, my friend and I were driven by the desire for success and all we wanted was to become successful. Therefore, we utilized every opportunity that came our way.

Due to our desperation for success, we got scammed in every opportunity we saw. Some even wasted both our time and money. After being scammed many times, we began to see every opportunity as fraud. We doubted and even scorned those who took steps.

But on a particular day, a friend of ours, Tunde, whom we had not seen in a very long time, paid us a visit. He appeared to be doing well for himself. He stayed for some days before he left. However, during his stay, he introduced us to a company that specialized in training and employing freelancers. And told us that if we were interested, we should call him. He told us the name of the company which is now the popular “Ultimate Tech”. The company was open for admitting and training 100 candidates. Successful candidates would later be employed by the company.

As usual, my friend and I labelled it a scam because it was a time when yahoo yahoo was rampant. However, during the night I thought so much about it and decided to give it a try. So I told my other friend about my consideration but he refused, saying “I don't want to do fraud and become a cyber criminal”.

The following day, I quickly called Tunde, my friend, who introduced us to the opportunity. He explained the procedure to get registered for the training to me. This decision marked the turning point in my life. Within eight months, I learned UI/UX design, built real projects, and started getting freelance jobs

Ultimate Tech, just like then, is open to training 100 individuals in any tech skill of their choice. Registration is open from May 20 to June 20 of this year. Register now! Once 100 slots are filled, registration closes immediately. The same opportunity that changed my life could change yours too.

One sentence can change how people see your business.

That’s the power of copywriting.

A weak message makes people scroll.

A strong message makes people stop, pay attention, and take action.

Most customers decide within seconds whether they’re interested in what you offer.

Not because of your product alone…
…but because of how you PRESENT it.

That’s why businesses with better messaging often attract more customers, even when competitors offer similar products.

Words matter in marketing.

The right message can:
✅ Build trust
✅ Increase engagement
✅ Improve conversions
✅ Make your brand more memorable

In business, perception influences decisions.

And copywriting shapes perception.
