NIGERIAN ARMY WOMEN COMMAND HOST SEMINAR AND LUNCHEON TO COMMEMORATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025

The Headquarters Nigerian Army Women Command hosted a Seminar and Luncheon on Saturday 8 March 2025 to commemorate International Women’s Day for the year. The auspicious event was held in a grand style at Lt Gen TA Lagbaja Auditorium Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information, Giri Abuja.

The event was aimed at motivating, educating and encouraging women in the Nigerian Army on the need to *Accelerate Action* towards gender equality and balance by building their capacity to be professionally competent to take up roles and responsibilities for career progression.

In declaring the Seminar open, The Special Guest of Honour, Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Maj Gen Olusegun Abai, ably represented by the Deputy Chief of Transformation Maj Gen AC Adetoba, stated that the Celebration of the International Women’s Day by the Nigerian Army Women Command is a reaffirmation of Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity, equal opportunity and empowering women in service. He noted that the Nigerian Army appreciates the contribution of its female officers and soldiers to the overall success of the system.

The Special Guest of Honour further stated that the inclusion of female personnel as participants at the Chief of Army Staff Conferences is
a clear indication of the Nigerian Army’s drive towards the implementation of gender balance in decision making processes. The Special Guest of Honour thereafter charged the participants to remain focused, motivated and result oriented to ensure their contributions to national security is impactful.

In his welcome remarks earlier, the Commander Nigerian Army Women Command, Brig Gen Mathias Amatso stated that the celebration is inspired by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen OO Oluyede’s Command Philosophy which is “*To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment”*. He further highlighted that the Seminar and Luncheon is one of the several steps geared towards building the combat readiness of Nigerian Army Personnel - especially for the women in service, to ensure effective discharge of their constitutional Responsibility.

The first lecture at the Seminar was delivered by the DG NYSC Brig Gen OO Nafiu on the topic Empowering Women in the Nigerian Army: Strengthening Capacity for Career Advancement.
The second lecture was delivered by LT Col SJ Dibal (Rtd) on the topic: Overcoming Gender Based Challenges in the Military.
During the robust Interactive Session, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja) Prof Patricia Manko Lar commended the Nigerian Army for being at the fore front of Gender Inclusivity among several institutions. She expressed her delight in seeing many women in the Nigerian Army at various levels of leadership. Thereafter she encouraged female personnel in the Nigerian Army to strengthen their capacity so that they can compete favourably for any position in the system and also do well in positions of leadership. Female personnel at the event also expressed immense gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen OO Oluyede NAM for celebrating them in such a memorable and highly motivating manner.

Other Highlights of the event were the presentation of souvenirs, group photographs and a well organized luncheon.

Nigerian Army Decorates First Female Infantry Corps Army Warrant Officer in Abuja

The Nigerian Army Women Command achieved a historic milestone on Friday, January 3, 2025, as Brigadier General Mathias Amatso, Commander of the Nigerian Army Women Command, decorated Army Warrant Officer Hajara Egbunu with her new rank badge. The ceremony, held at the Command Conference Room, marked a groundbreaking achievement as Egbunu became the first female soldier of the elite Infantry Corps and the Nigerian Army Women Command to ascend to the esteemed rank of Army Warrant Officer.

Lieutenant Maureen Ogbuka, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Nigerian Army Women Command, noted in a statement that Brigadier General Amatso commended Egbunu’s unwavering professionalism, effectiveness, and dedication. He highlighted that her promotion was well-deserved, a testament to her hard work and exceptional service. The Commander urged her to continue setting high standards by instilling discipline and motivating younger soldiers, while reaffirming her commitment to the Nigerian Army’s values.

In her vote of thanks, Army Warrant Officer Egbunu expressed profound gratitude to God and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, for his exemplary leadership and for granting her the opportunity to reach this remarkable rank. She also appreciated the guidance of Brigadier General Amatso, which had been instrumental in her role as the Command’s Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).

NIGERIAN ARMY WOMEN COMMAND CELEBRATES HISTORIC MILESTONE AS COMMANDER DECORATES FIRST FEMALE ARMY WARRANT OFFICER, URGING CONTINUED LOYALTY AND DEDICATION

The Commander Nigerian Army Women Command Brigadier General Mathias Amatso today, Friday 3 January 2025 decorated a trailblazing soldier Army Warrant Officer Hajara Egbunu with her new rank badge at the command conference room. The newly promoted Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) made history by becoming the first female of the elite Infantry Corps and the Nigerian Army Women Command to reach the pinnacle of her military career as an Army Warrant Officer.

During the historic decoration ceremony Brigadier General Mathias Amatso praised the newly decorated Army Warrant Officer for her effectiveness and efficiency. He noted that her promotion was a result of her hard work and professional excellence. The Commander encouraged her to uphold the standard of instilling discipline and hard work in younger soldiers and to remain dedicated to the Nigerian Army.

In her vote of thanks, the ecstatic Army Warrant Officer Egbunu thanked God, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General OO Oluyede for his exemplary leadership and for finding her worthy to be promoted to the enviable rank in the Nigerian Army. She also appreciated the Commander Nigerian Army Women Command for his guidance which has assisted her in carrying out her duties as the command RSM.

The decoration ceremony was climaxed with a group photograph and entertainment with light refreshments to make the decoration a memorable one.

NIGERIAN ARMY WOMEN COMMAND CONDUCTS HER MAIDEN WORKSHOP ON BUILDING A HAPPY AND PEACEFUL FAMILY FOR NIGERIAN ARMY PERSONNEL……as COAS reassures continuous support to soldiers and their families

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja reassured that the Nigerian Army will continue to provide comprehensive support systems for soldiers and their families so that marital related challenges can be navigated successfully. The COAS stated this during the Maiden Workshop of the Nigerian Army Women Command on Building a Happy and Peaceful Family for Nigerian Army Personnel held at Army Headquarters Command Officers Mess 1 Asokoro Abuja.

The COAS who was represented by the Commander Army Headquarters Garrison Major General Koko Isoni stated that soldiers who have a happy and peaceful family often draw additional morale from the assurance of a secured home front to stay more focused and dedicated to their duties. This heightened focus translates into better performance, quicker and more accurate decision-making, and ultimately, greater mission success. The COAS further noted that when soldiers can concentrate fully on their tasks without distraction of relationship crisis from the home front, the entire Army benefits.

The COAS also emphasized that the well-being of soldiers and their families lies at the heart of Nigerian Army's transformation. Other support systems such as the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS), provision of accessible education for children of army personnel through command children and secondary schools, building of worship centres, establishment of skills acquisition centres for family members and many others he expressed.

The Commander Nigerian Army Women Command, Brigadier General Mathias Amatso in his welcome remarks expressed that the workshop was inspired by the COAS focus on Sound Administration as a pillar in his Command Philosophy. He further stated that it is specifically hinged on the tenet of Support for the Homefront under sound administration. He also remarked that Nigerian Army personnel should count themselves fortunate to have a Chief of Army Staff who do not only think about how many battles the soldiers win for him, but is also deeply concerned about how to support the soldiers Homefront (that is their family.). He highlighted that the workshop was a step by the Nigerian Army Women Command to actualize the tenet of Support for the Homefront in the COAS Command Philosophy, for the benefit of Nigerian Army Women Command troops, all participants of the workshop and Nigerian Army at large.

Lectures delivered were on: Soldiering and Building a Happy and Peaceful Family through Deliberate practices, Balancing Military Service and
Parenting. others were Honouring our Values: Addressing Sexual Violence and Abuse, and Notable Nigerian Army Policys relating to Family life.

High points of the event were, interactive session, presentation of souvenirs, presentation of certificates to participants and group photograph.

TROOPS WELFARE:: COAS COMMISSIONS OFFICIAL RESIDENCE OF RSM NAWC

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has commissioned the newly constructed official residence of the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of Headquarters Nigerian Army Women Command in Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment Giri, FCT on 23 July 2024.

In his remarks, The Chief of Army Staff, stated that the construction of RSM’s official residence is one of the deliberate steps of the Nigerian Army under his leadership towards reinforcing the prestige, pride and good reputation of the RSM's office. He pointed out that accommodation is a very critical aspect of troops welfare, as such the NA will continue to build more accommodations within the limit of its resources and competing demands as a testimony to the premium which he places on improving the welfare of troops.

The COAS who was represented by the Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Koko Isoni stated that RSMs regularly bring knowledge derived from several years' experience in service and various trainings to bear in supporting a commander to achieve set goals of the unit or formation. He further charged the RSM NAWC and other personnel to ensure proper care and maintenance of all facilities, amenities and infrastructure within their quarters and offices.

While Welcoming the Representative of the COAS at the event, the Commander Nigerian Army Women Command, Brigadier General Mathias Amatso averred that the Command was honored and elated by the construction of the RSMs official residence. Gen Amatso thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the laudable project which will impact positively in enhancing regimentation and discipline in the command. He said it wil also spur others to strive towards attaining the enviable position of an RSM.

Presentation of the house keys to the NAWC RSM, a tour of the residence, vote of thanks and group photograph were part of the highlights of the commissioning.

NIGERIAN ARMY FEMALE PERSONNEL ARE ALSO OPERATIONAL AND PROFESSIONALLY EFFECTIVE - Commander Army Women Command

The Commander Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) Brigadier General MI Amatso has said that Nigerian Army female personnel of the command are not taking the back seat but rather they are stepping forward effectively and proving themselves operationally and professionally in the Nigerian Army’s effort towards tackling security challenges in the country. The Commander stated this during a courtesy visit by the Ag CO 167 Special Forces Battalion on 11 July 2024.

In his remarks during the reception, the Commander NAWC Brig Gen MI Amatso expressed his appreciation for the visit while noting the importance of cooperation in fostering esprit-de-corps and team spirit among personnel. He commended the CO 167 SF Bn for various successes achieved by his unit in their operations. He also pledged the continuous support of the NAWC to 167 SF Bn whenever the need arises. Gen Amatso then thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for creating a Command that is women-oriented which provides an opportunity for women in the NA to harness their potential and showcase their capabilities in the line of duty.

In his remarks, the Ag Commanding Officer 167 Special Forces Battalion, Major SS Jatau congratulated the Commander on his well-deserved appointment as the Commander Nigerian Army Women Command. He also thanked the Commander for the warm reception and applauded the active roles of NAWC in NA activities. He also stated that he was at the command for a familiarization visit to acquaint the Comd with the activities of the Battalion as well as expressed their readiness to respond to any distress calls at short notice.

Highlights of the visit were the signing of visitor book, exchange of souvenirs and group photograph.

NIGERIAN ARMY CYBER WARFARE COMMAND TAKES SOCIAL MEDIA SENSITIZATION LECTURE TO NIGERIAN ARMY WOMEN CORPS.

As part of its efforts to enhance troops understanding of the importance of social media in military operations, Armed Forces of Nigeria Social Media Policy as well as dealing with the menace of fake news, the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command (NACWC) on Wednesday, 2 November 2022, conducted a one day Social Media Sensitization lecture for the Nigerian Army Women Corps (NAWC). The lecture was held at the Auditorium of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare School in Giri, Abuja.

Delivering his remarks, the Acting Commander NAWC of the Corps, Colonel DE Adamu, urged the participants to adhere strictly to the Social Media Policy for responsible use of the platform. He further urged them to desist from the abuse of social media space.

Similarly, while delivering his lecture on the use of Social Media, Lieutenant Colonel KE Okoroji, the NACWC Acting Deputy Director Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) enlightened the participants on how best to use platforms to enhance operational security and promote the image of the Nigerian Army. Additionally, Lieutenant CP Oteh, the Assistant Director Army Public Relations NACWC also took the participants on the practical aspect of the lecture while sensitizing them on the appropriate measures to be taken in protecting their devices from cyberattacks.

"Redouble Your Efforts to be Able to Discharge Expected Tasks, as all Promotions are Accompanied With Additional Responsibilities" – Nigerian Army Women Corps (NAWC) Charges the Newly Promoted Senior Officer.

The Coordinator 1 Women Special Operations Battalion (1SWOB) Major RS Agwai was today decorated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the Acting Commander NAWC Colonel DE Adamu at the Corps Headquarters in Giri, Abuja.

As promotion remains a yardstick to appreciate and reward hardworking soldiers, the Acting Commander Nigerian Army Women’s Corps Colonel DE Adamu has just decorated newly promoted soldiers of the Corps. The Commander advised the newly decorated Soldiers to remain disciplined, committed and apolitical while carrying out their assigned task of defending the nation against any form of insecurity.

NIGERIAN ARMY WOMEN CORPS TO COMMENCE FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE

1. The Nigerian Army Women Corps (NAWC) will commence a 7 day FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE (FTX) for its troops from 27 August - 2 September 2022 in Giri-Gwagwalada general area, Abuja. The exercise is designed to test the troop’s Leadership skills, Physical fitness, Team work, Military Operations Other than War among other military drills. The exercise would also provide a platform to ascertain troops’ preparedness towards supporting all the Nigerian Army’s engagements.

2. Consequently, communities living around Gwagwalada, Giri, Tugan Maji, Ana-Gada, Gudumba, Tagilogo and Makalma in Abuja are enjoined not to panic on seeing mass movement of military personnel, vehicles and equipment in the general area from 27 August - 2 September 2022. Residents in the general areas mentioned are therefore enjoined to go about their normal daily routine activities and report any breach of security to the nearest authority. Furthermore, members of the communities are advised to stay away from the exercise area during the entire period of the FTX.

3. You are please requested to use your medium to disseminate and enlighten the general public, particularly the inhabitants of the aforementioned areas. While thanking you for your usual cooperation, please accept the esteem regards of the Acting Commander of the Corps.
