The whole world will never forget COVID-19 and the disruptions it caused, and Trump’s second tenure (aka second coming) and the disruptions that are coming with it.
For instance, Canada is being faced with the challenge of their long-time best friends and ally, the United States of America, switching off on them. Trump’s government has now imposed tariffs on importation from Canada, but that’s not all. There are policies that affect security and intelligence sharing, aid to Canada, among others.
African Canadians came together to discuss how to take advantage of the opportunities that these disruptions have created to:
1. Design a response to protect the country they now call home - Canada, especially its capital, Ottawa.
2. Leverage the disruption to foster cross-border businesses relationships between Canada and the African continent and to tackle the barriers to trade.
3. Design solutions that help both Africans-owned and other Canadian businesses develop resistance to the adverse effect that this disruption could potentially bring.
It was indeed a privilege that I, on behalf the rest of the team was so invited to facilitate the conversations that border on the economy of Canada and Africa too.
