Day 1 Recap:
Day 1 of in Ottawa began with regional consultations setting the stage for intensive negotiations on developing a binding international agreement to combat plastic pollution, particularly in our precious marine environments. Side events highlighted key themes such as plastic pollution mitigation strategies, capacity building, financing mechanisms, and the importance of a just transition towards sustainability. Looking forward to more fruitful discussions in the days ahead! 🌍🤝

The 2024 Conference, under the theme Shaping a Future of Global and Sustainable Progress, will provide an opportunity for multi-stakeholder engagement ahead of the Summit of the Future and a venue for civil society to participate in the preparations process. The conference will provide civil society with an additional platform to speak out and share ideas that could contribute to the Pact for the Future negotiations, in line with SDG17 and the Our Common Agenda's vision of networked and inclusive multilateralism.

Registration is open to all legally registered NGOs (deadline April 5), Member States, UN entities, academic institutions, and private entities. (deadline March 31st)

It's our responsibility to question these practices and work towards their end. Let's promote cultural diversity while actively striving to eliminate harmful traditions for a more inclusive and equitable world.
