Design of a Cassava grating machine which has two modes of operation was made. It can be powered either electrically or manually. It takes care of power failure problems, and can be used in rural settlements where electricity supply is not in existence. Cassava is fed with the Machine through the hopper made of metal sheet to the granting drum, which rotates at a constant speed. This process grates the cassava into cassava pulp. The chute constructed of metal sheet accepts the pulp and send it out because of its inclination which operated manually, the efficiency of the machine was found to be 92.4%, which the efficiency of the electrically powered machine was found to be 91.9%.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

The major raw material required in the production of garri is harvested cassava roots. The fresh cassava tuber should be free from microbial or insect damage. Machines and equipment for establishing a garri plant include peelers, graters, hydraulic press, fermentation rack and fryers.

How To extract Oil from Soybean

Step 1

Purchase well-dried soybeans. Remove any foreign matter, including leaves, twigs or small stones from the beans. Place the beans in a shallow pan and preheat them until hot to the touch before pressing.

Step 2
Place a small container under the press at the port where the oil expels from the press. Place the larger container under the end of the oil press to hold the spent soybean cake.

Step 3
Place enough heated soybeans in the press to fill the hopper around 2/3 full. Turn the handle to begin feeding the beans into the press.

Step 4
Push the soybeans into the press with a wooden pestle occasionally to keep the beans moving continually into the press. Stop the press occasionally to empty the oil in the smaller container into a glass jar. Continue to refill the hopper with beans until all of the seeds are pressed.

Step 5

Empty any remaining soybean oil into the glass jar. Place a lid on the jar and set it in a warm and dark location to let the oil separate from other matter, such as water, expelled during the extraction process. Pour off the separated soybean oil the next day.
