You stayed late.
You sent the check-ins.
You reshuffled the workload.
You even bought the team lunch.

And the morale is still flat.
So you start wondering, am I the problem?

Here’s the truth nobody tells managers: low team morale is rarely about you not trying hard enough. It’s almost always a symptom of something deeper.

It could be a culture where people don’t feel heard.
It could be unclear expectations that leave people anxious every Monday.
It could be a system that rewards busyness over meaningful work.
It could be one toxic dynamic that everyone can see; except leadership.

Blaming yourself keeps you stuck in guilt.
Understanding the real cause is what actually moves things forward.

At Sao Koopman, we help organizations diagnose what’s really driving poor morale and build the leadership and team capacity to fix it properly.

Because …your team doesn’t need a manager who blames themselves.
They need a leader who understands them.

Drop a comment if this hit close to home.
And save this you’ll want to come back to it.

This is how the system has been for years and many of you can relate. Let’s gvn for a change. Shall we?

Let’s have an honest conversation nobody in Nigerian boardrooms wants to start.

The future of work is not coming. It’s already here - and it’s asking hard questions.
AI is reshaping roles. Remote and hybrid work is now a real talent expectation. The gig economy is pulling talent away from traditional employment.
…And the half-life of workplace skills is shrinking every year.

So where does Nigeria stand?
The honest answer is: somewhere in the middle. And “somewhere in the middle” is not a safe place to stay.

Here’s what we’re seeing on the ground:

There are green shoots - a growing appetite for digital skills, a generation of young professionals who are globally connected and hungry to grow and leadership in some organizations that genuinely gets it.

But there are also critical gaps. Learning & Development is still treated as overhead in too many organizations. Middle management is underprepared for the psychological demands of leading hybrid and remote teams. And the public sector workforce ;one of Nigeria’s largest, is still largely trained the same way it was twenty years ago.

The organizations that will win in the next decade are not necessarily the biggest. They are the ones asking better questions right now:

— Are we building careers or just filling roles?
— Are our managers equipped to lead in uncertainty?
— Are we investing in our people before we lose them?

The future of work will not wait for us to be ready.
The question is whether you’ll start preparing today or spend the next five years catching up.

What’s your honest assessment? Drop it in the comments.
