But only if you stop treating it like an online CV.

Create your account. Complete your profile. Send connection requests every single day. Connect with people in your industry, recruiters, founders, hiring managers and people doing the kind of work you want to do.

And please, act like somebody that is under intense pressure.

Show up.

Talk about what you do. Share what you are learning. Share your opinions. Talk about your work, your wins, your failures and the problems you know how to solve.

Because opportunities do not only come from applying for jobs.

Sometimes, someone sees your profile.

Sometimes, someone reads your post.

Sometimes, someone remembers you when an opportunity comes up.

Your LinkedIn account should not be a digital storage folder for your CV.

It should be a platform where people can discover your value.

Build your network. Create content. Be visible. Start conversations.

You never know which connection will open the next door for you.

Your marital status does not determine your ability to do the job.

So why is it still on your CV?

Your CV should focus on your skills, experience, qualifications and achievements, not personal details that have little or no relevance to the role.

Remove it. Focus on what makes you employable.

Imagine advertising the same job role for an entire year.

That is a red flag.

If a company has been posting the same vacancy for months without any clear sign of hiring, you should start asking questions.

Are they actually hiring?

Are they collecting candidates’ CVs and personal information?

Is the role even genuinely available?

It does not automatically mean the company is fraudulent, but it is definitely something to investigate before applying.

Research the company, verify the vacancy and be careful with the personal information you submit.

5. When should I expect to receive feedback from the hiring team, and what is the expected timeline for the next steps?

This helps you know when to follow up and gives you clarity on what happens next.

Here Is The Truth No One Tells You About:

Your date of birth has no business being on your CV.

Your CV is not a biography. It is a marketing document designed to communicate your value to an employer.

What should be at the forefront?

Your skills.
Your experience.
Your achievements.
Your impact.
Your qualifications.
The value you can bring to the organisation.

The goal is not for a recruiter to look at your CV and start calculating your age.

The goal is for them to see what you can do and why you are worth interviewing.

Stop giving recruiters information they did not ask for and start highlighting the information that makes you employable.

Your age is not your value.

Your value is what you bring to the table.

When asked, “What are your salary expectations?” don’t rush to give one fixed figure.

Give a range.

Your expected salary should reflect your experience, the value you bring, the responsibilities of the role, and current market expectations.

For example:

“Based on my experience, the scope of the role, and current market expectations, I am looking at a range of ₦500,000 to ₦1,500,000 monthly. However, I am open to discussing the specific figure based on the responsibilities, compensation structure, and overall value I can bring to the organisation.”

This gives you room to negotiate without pricing yourself too low or appearing unrealistic.

Know your market value. Know your minimum. Know your range.

And most importantly, be prepared to justify it.

If you must use metrics on your CV, be ready to justify them.

Writing “increased sales by 40%” sounds impressive.

But what happens when the interviewer asks:

“How did you arrive at 40%?”

If you cannot explain the number, the metric can quickly become a liability.

Every number on your CV should have a story behind it.

Know where it came from.
Know what you did to achieve it.
Know the timeframe.
Know how it was measured.

Do not add numbers just to make your CV look impressive.

Add numbers you can confidently defend in an interview.

Your CV gets you the interview.

Your ability to explain your achievements helps you move forward.
