Appetizer: 5th Sunday of Easter (18/05/25)

We need strengthening in our faith. We need encouragement. This is the importance of communal worship (Acts 14). We are to love one another as Christ loved us, and that is far more than we love ourselves (Jn 13).

Rev Fr Kelechi Okereke Marcellinus CMF.

Appetizer: Good Shepherd Sunday (11/05/25)

The Gospel can't be hoarded like palliatives. It must be spread. Christ the Spotless Lamb is the Good Shepherd. He wants more people to listen to him, so that no one is lost (Acts 13, Rev 7, Jn 10).

Rev Fr Kelechi Okereke Marcellinus CMF.

Appetizer: 3rd Sunday of Easter (04/05/25)

The first two times Jesus asked Peter, "DO YOU LOVE ME?' he was referring to agape love, while Peter was referring to philos. The third time, Jesus came down to Peter's level of love. Jesus needs a little love from us, and he will transform it to a total self-giving.

Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday) commemorates the Lord's supper and celebrates the institution of the Eucharist and priesthood.

Christ gave a new commandment of love and washed his disciples' feet. After the mass, there is also the adoration of Jesus at the Altar of Repose.

Appetizer: Palm Sunday 🌴 (13/04/2025)

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. The carrying of branches signifies Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a donkey which leads to his passion. Christ is an example of humility and obedience.

Appetizer: Fifth Sunday of Lent (6/4/25).

The first and second readings urge us to forget the past and look towards the future with hope. We are not finished products, but at each point in our lives we should have Christ (Isa 43, Philp 3).

The Gospel story of Jesus and the Adulteress invites to us to look into our consciences. He does not condemn us, he wants us to sin no more (Jn 8).

Appetizer: Fourth Sunday of Lent (30/03/2025).

Laetare Sunday (from the Latin "Laetare Jerusalem," meaning "Rejoice, O Jerusalem") offers us a moment of joy, a glimpse of the Easter glory that awaits us.

We are expected to grow, but this does not mean that we part ways with God. When we sin, we should ask for forgiveness, like the prodigal Son. The Father waits for us, ready to embrace us (Lk15)

Appetizer: Third Sunday of Lent (23/03/2025).

In the first reading (Ex 3), God introduces himself to Moses as I AM WHO I AM, and gave him a mission to liberate his people. Our advancement as society depends largely on our daily and simple heroic acts. God is nearer to us than we think, and we can call upon him.

The Gospel (Lk 13) narrates the parable of the fig tree which shows God's patience with sinners. It is an invitation for us to be fruitful.

Appetizer: Second Sunday of Lent (16/03/2025).

Today's Gospel (Lk 9:28-36) describes the Transfiguration of Our Lord. Jesus took Peter, James and John to pray: the importance of prayer. The appearance of Moses and Elijah: Jesus as the fulfilment of the law and prophets.

The Glorious Appearance points to the transfiguration of our mortal bodies into copies of his glorious body (Phil 3:21). The injunction to "listen to Him" asks us to remain faithful to the Lord and to keep His covenant (Gen 15).

Appetizer: First Sunday of Lent (09/03/2025).
Lessons from today's liturgy:

1. The themes, drawn from the readings, include the importance of faith, reliance on God, and the spiritual journey of conversion and resistance to temptation.

2. The first reading (Deut 26:4-10) recounts the Israelites' journey from oppression in Egypt to the Promised Land, highlighting God's faithfulness and deliverance. We are called to remember their own spiritual journey and the ways in which God has intervened in their lives.

3. The Gospel (Lk 4) presents the account of Jesus' temptation in the desert. The forty days in the desert parallel the Lenten journey, inviting the faithful to engage in their own spiritual discipline of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Appetizer: Ash Wednesday (05/03/2025).
4 things about Ash Wednesday:

1. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. This day is characterized by the imposition of ashes, which serves as a powerful symbol of penance, mortality, and the call to conversion.

2. During the imposition, the priest or minister says, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" (Genesis 3:19) or "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" (Mark 1:15).

3 The Lenten season, beginning with Ash Wednesday, is traditionally a time of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. The liturgical colour is purple, and the usage of 'alleluia' is suppressed.

4 The practice of using ashes as a sign of penance has deep biblical roots, as seen in the Old Testament where individuals would don sackcloth and ashes to express sorrow for sin.
