Our H1 2026 PFMO Summative Report is live, breaking down how 774 officers are tracking funds, recovering mismanaged assets, and expanding 24/7 care across Nigeria.

Between January and June 2026, Performance and Financial Management Officers (PFMOs) conducted 71,137 field visits across all 36 states and the FCT to ensure every Naira allocated through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) delivers direct impact on the ground.

What does "facility monitoring" actually look like in practice?

It means ensuring that when a patient walks into a PHC, they find a trained midwife, working equipment, and active services.

PFMOs travel to the most remote corners of our communities to audit, verify, and track resources. They monitor operational details on the field so that transparency is maintained, funds are utilized properly, and quality healthcare is never out of reach.

A routine facility visit identified a challenge. Community collaboration delivered the solution.

During a supportive supervision visit to Saji Health Clinic, Rano LGA, Kano State, a PFMO identified the absence of an ultrasound scanning machine, a critical gap that forced patients, especially pregnant women, to travel long distances for diagnostic services before returning to the facility for treatment.

Working alongside the Officer-in-Charge and the Ward Development Committee, the PFMO facilitated stakeholder engagement that led to a community leader donating an ultrasound scanning machine to the facility. Today, the equipment is in place, bringing essential diagnostic services closer to the people who need them most.

This is a powerful example of how routine oversight goes beyond monitoring. By identifying gaps, strengthening accountability, and mobilizing local action, PFMOs are helping create practical, sustainable improvements that enhance primary healthcare delivery across communities.
