🚫 HOME RECYCLING 101: PART 14 - RECYCLING MYTHS DEBUNKED

Misconceptions about recycling can undermine your efforts. Let's separate fact from fiction:

MYTH #1: "All plastics are recyclable"
FACT: Only plastics #1, #2, #5 are commonly accepted. #3, #4, #6, #7 often contaminate batches.

MYTH #2: "Rinsing isn't necessary"
FACT: Food residue contaminates entire batches. Always rinse before recycling.

MYTH #3: "Plastic bags are recyclable"
FACT: Bags jam sorting machinery. Collect separately or reuse at home.

MYTH #4: "Recycling solves the waste problem"
FACT: Recycling is step 3. Reduce ( #1) and Reuse ( #2) are more powerful.

MYTH #5: "Everything gets recycled"
FACT: Contaminated batches end up in landfills. Quality matters.

MYTH #6: "Recycling is expensive"
FACT: Recycling saves resources and creates jobs. Prevention saves more.

MYTH #7: "One person's recycling doesn't matter"
FACT: Collective action creates exponential impact. Your effort counts.

Knowledge is power. Understanding recycling reality helps you make informed choices. D Nigeria Limited educates residents so your efforts create real impact.

SERVICE. NOT NOISE.

We began our waste management journey in Festac, Lagos, Nigeria, in 1999.

As soon as we submitted our compliance list & other data. Our operational zone was withdrawn. We were assigned BANANA ISLAND where we started again with a meager monthly income of N15,000 ($12) and a tenant of less than 10.

For nearly 20 years we kept Banana Island clean until it became the billionaires paradise.

On the 24th of December 2025. Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) restructured. We were given five days’ notice to vacate despite residents one year upfront payment to us till Nov 2026. A new operator was assigned.

This is the power of policy- or perhaps, the policy of power.

Today, I dedicate this TESTIMONIAL to my tireless 32 man team : the drivers, the supervisors, the handlers & to everyone who has contributed to this journey of service & resilience.

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor," Desmond Tutu

The light that serves the people cannot be extinguished.

Thank you.
