Mr. Audu ran a small logistics company in Kaduna. He had four delivery bikes, two drivers, and a growing list of clients.
Business was good until he needed it to be better.

A government contract came, 4.5 million job. Move medical supplies from Kaduna to three local government areas. His friend who worked in the ministry whispered the opportunity into his ear.

Mr. Audu ran to the bank to open a corporate account. The bank officer looked at him over her glasses.

"Sir, do you have your CAC Certificate of Incorporation?"

"Certificate of what?"

"CAC. Corporate Affairs Commission. We cannot open a business account without it. And the government contract will also require it."

Mr. Audu's "company" existed only in his head and on a flex banner he had printed at Wuse Market. No CAC. No corporate account. No contract.

He watched another logistics company smaller than his, with fewer bikes win that contract simply because they had their paperwork.

That evening, Mr. Audu registered his business. Two weeks later, he had his certificate.
He never missed another contract opportunity again.

LESSON: Banks and government agencies REQUIRE CAC registration before doing serious business with you.

Mama Chinyere had been selling her famous puff-puff and chin-chin from her shop in Onitsha for six years.
Everyone knew her brand "Mama Chi Snacks." She had regular customers, supplied three schools, and was even talking to a distributor in Abuja.

Then one Tuesday morning, a young man walked into her shop.

"Good morning, ma. My name is Emeka. I registered 'Mama Chi Snacks' with CAC last month." He placed a printed certificate on her counter. "You will need to change your business name or we go to court."

Mama Chinyere's heart sank. Six years of building that name. Six years. And this stranger could take it because he had a piece of paper and she didn't.

She called her cousin Ngozi, who was a lawyer. Ngozi explained it plainly: "Mama Chi, CAC registration gives you legal ownership of that business name. Without it, anybody can register it and you have no protection."

The dispute took three painful months and cost her 180k in legal fees just to negotiate a settlement. And she still had to rebrand.

The lesson Mama Chinyere always tells people now? "Register your business name before somebody else does. CAC registration is not paperwork, it is protection."

LESSON: Your business name is your identity.

CAC registration legally protects it from being taken by someone else. Don't wait until you're crying before you act.
