Tales of a cac registration expert.

So since last August I’ve been advising Mr. Nonso to get his business registered and he has been continuously telling me that he has no money.

In February, I was passing by his shop and I saw correct banners in front of the shop. He even made Direction banners.

HMM.. PERSON WEY SAY HIM NO GET MONEY.🤔

Three weeks ago, I was listening to 93.1 FM and I heard them playing Mr. Nonso’s jingle, announcing his unregistered business name, the location of his business and the services he renders.😮

I was happy for him. Indeed it is good to take strides in business, but I also knew it was dangerous for him, so I went back again to advise him to legally secure his company name before engaging in marketing and advertising. But again, he told me that he does not have money for it and that he wants to put some things in place first.

I said okay, and I pretended to understand even though i didn’t. Because basically, I can’t understand the reason why someone who has👇

1. 25k to pay for a jingle,
2. 5k to pay for 2 minutes on air in a radio station,
3. 30k to pay for a roll-up banner.
4. 5k each for small direction banners of which he made 3.
5. 1k per day for facebook sponsored AD. and he paid for 30 days.

All of this approximately costs N105,000, but he tells me that he does not have 25k to secure the business name that is boldly written on all his adverts.

I said okay because I didn't want to bother him, make him no come dey feel as if na me go benefit pass for him business registration 🤣.

Long story short. Just this morning Mr. Nonso called me to help him register his business. After conducting a thorough name search I found out that someone else has legally registered a business name that is 98% similar to Mr. Nonso's business and for that reason I know for a fact that CAC will reject our application. All that money, wasted. Because he will have to come up with a new name for his business.

My dear, to avoid doing free marketing for people and wasting your money, please always register your business before engaging in marketing and advertising.

Two days ago, I was reading an eBook from one of the bloggers I follow their content and he pointed out something that struck me. He adviced that bloggers should spend 80% of their time to promote their content and 20% of their time creating content.
Before now, the popular believe is to create more content for your readers and at the end you are left with little or no time promoting those contents.
He rationalized that in a highly competitive market space- the internet, your content may be lost in that big space if you fail to promote it(getting readers to read the content).
I reflected on his point of view. In Sales, my first love, as a company you may spend resources creating an amazing product but if you fail to promote it very well, your product will perform poorly in the market thereby diminishing all those investments.
As school owners, you may have the best blended curriculum; 21st century teaching methodologies; State-of-the art facilities; dedicated and experienced teachers. However, if you fail to make noise(promote) about all these to the intended customers(parents), the value is lost.
Questions for reflection:
1. How do existing parents in your school catchment area know that your school exists?
2. How do potential parents outside your school catchment area know that your school exists?
3. Can your current parents refer other parents to your school?
4. What about your teachers? Can they confidently market your school to parents around where they live?

Create a page for your school. Believe me, there are a lot you can do with your school page. You can promote all your school activities on your school page. You can create Events on your page and promote them.
Instagram Business Page:
Create Instagram business account for your school and use it to promote your school activities. You can link your School page with your School Instagram Business Account.
Google My Business:
Set up your School business profile on Google and attract new customers(parents) with your free Business Profile. So when parents search: "Private Schools in Umuahia", your school comes up in the search result and they may check into your school because it is the closet to them.
