Topic: *A strong marriage (2)*

'Be kindly affectionate to one another.' Romans 12:10 NKJV

Here are five more relationship lessons by Jon Gordon:

*'(1) The more I love my wife, the more I love my life.* It's not about what she does for me. It's not about keeping score. It's about deciding to be selfless, love her, serve her and be there for her. When I do, we both get better.

*(2) Encourage instead of competing.* A lot of couples get jealous if their spouse is enjoying success, rather than encouraging them. When you support and advocate for each other, you grow individually and strengthen your team.

*(3) Don't give up.* Sometimes marriage is great and sometimes it isn't. Too many people give up, thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. It isn't. Plant yourself, nurture your relationship, invest time and energy in your spouse, and you will grow into who you're meant to be. Marriage is where you learn to give and take and compromise, where you work on your individual issues and heal together.

*(4) Have a shared mission.* My wife and I knew we weren't together just for ourselves. We felt our mission was to raise champions who will make a difference in the world. We aren't perfect parents, we have made mistakes, but our mission inspired us to give our very best.'

*Life Application #
And most importantly: '(5) Invite God into your marriage. Years ago when we hit a tough patch, a guy told me how he and his wife pray together every night. So, I asked God what our prayer should be. It came to me a few days later, and we have said it every night since. It has made a difference that leads to forgiveness, healing, and growth.'

*Don’t forget!*

*Scriptures:* Neh 8-10, John 18:25-40, Ps 105:1-7, Pro 30:1-4.

Topic: *The Huddle*

'I appeal to you...to live in harmony with each other.' 1 Corinthians 1:10 NLT

To lead your family effectively, you need to learn how to huddle regularly. The 'huddle' is where a team:
(1) Sets its goals; (2) Discusses the division of responsibilities;
(3) Tackles the issues that determine whether it wins or loses.

Parent, even though you call the plays from overhead, your family must be taught how to accomplish them on the field. That means working through things, talking through the disagreements, motivating and appreciating each member. Try to listen with an open heart. Don't just hear what your children say, try to understand how they feel. Yes, you're the boss, and yes, you can try to enforce your will if you want to. But sooner or later you'll have trouble, for resentment grows when people feel left out. Every member of your team has got to be part of the decision-making process. Involve them!

*Life Application*
Ask God to help you look beyond what you want to what's best for all of you. And don't fall under the spell of instant gratification. What looks good to you today could be taking you off the path to a better tomorrow. And don't let 'outsiders' into your huddle. Tell them to stay in their own. Too often their opinions are based on hearsay, self-interest or jealousy. Respect the privacy of your team. Build loyalty. Huddle regularly in prayer. When you do that, everybody wins!

*Don't forget!* Huddle regularly in prayer.

*Scriptures:* Phil 4:4-13, Gen 11:1-9.

*Prayer Point*
Father, help me to access Coordinating grace to build my family in Jesus Unfailing Name.

Topic: *Refuse to live in fear (2)*

'The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.' Psalm 118:6 NKJV

God has created you for a life of growth, adventure and acceleration. But you must take bold steps of faith. And you can't do that if you're perfectly satisfied to live in 'the safe zone'. Even when you feel afraid, don't let it stop you! Feel the fear and do it anyway!

You say, 'Will I ever stop being afraid?' Yes, when you get to Heaven. Feeling fear is part of being alive. You will experience fear when you try something for the first time, or when the obstacles in your path seem insurmountable, or when you feel like your resources are not equal to the challenge. None of this means you're a coward; it just means you're human. You are only cowardly when you let your fears control your actions and decisions. Feeling fear is merely the temptation to flee from what you should confront.

*Life Application*
Feeling fear is not the same as being afraid, because being afraid means allowing fearful feelings to take control of you. But you don't have to. You can feel anger yet choose not to act on it, and instead respond with forgiveness and love. In the same way, you can feel fear and not let it make your decisions. 'He himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me"' (Hebrews 13:5-6 NKJV)? Note those two phrases: 'He...has said' and 'we may boldly say'. So, stand on God's word today and declare, 'I will not live in fear.'

*Don't forget!* Overcome fear.

*Scriptures:* Lev 23:15-22, Acts 2:1-18.

*Prayer Point*
Father, I receive grace to overcome every spirit of fear in 1ll ramifications in Jesus name.
