Sunday Igboho: Buhari govt has no right to seek Adeyemo’s extradition – Afenifere
Daily Post
07/23/2021

Ayo Adebanjo, the National Leader of Afenifere, has said the Yoruba nation is depending on God to deal with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Yoruba leader said the Buhari administration has no right to seek the extradition of Sunday Igboho, the popular Oduduwa Republic agitator, from the Benin Republic.

Adebanjo also claimed that Buhari cannot hold the kind of crowd the activist commands even though the Nigerian leader hires crowds of people to make him seem popular.

Speaking on Arise TV, Adebanjo described Igboho as a “political prisoner”, adding that the Buhari government has “no right” to seek his extradition.

The 93-year-old Afenifere leader said, “the-power-that-be wants to kill him because he’s leading a popular revolt.

“Buhari may depend on chariots and everything, but we have God. And we call on our God to deal with Buhari. Because we are helpless, and he has all the ammunition of power.”

“He [Igboho] is a political refugee. He didn’t commit any crime here. He didn’t waylay or kill anybody. He didn’t run away from anybody after committing a crime.

“He ran for his life because the-power-that-be wants to kill him because of his agitation. Because he’s leading a popular revolt.

“When they see the crowd that Igboho is pulling at every meeting, that is what is terrifying them. Can Buhari summon the crowd that Igboho is summoning each time he holds a meeting, even with the fact that he [Buhari] gives money to who will attend the meeting, that is a rented crowd?”

Nigeria is underestimating it enemies

last week, I was glad to see the news of our resilient and skilled pilot who did not only survive a plane crash but also applied survival mechanisms and unmatched experience to escape death from the people who shot down his plane.
Nevertheless, I find myself lost in thought and analysis of the whole scenario and circumstances which pronounced fear and uncertainties to everyone in that area and the country.

I started wondering how on earth could people who have the expertise and machinery to shoot down a whole Alpha Jet, supposedly the highest level of defence we have in the country and still be called bandits? Are we really serious in this country? Kidnappers and bandits have technically induced the entire North-western region with fear, brutality and highest level of inhumanity through atrocities that can only be best known by those who once fell into their evil hands and experienced the excruciating pains that could never be forgotten. They have succeeded in doing all that without the power of shooting down an Alpha Jet.

And to our scariest nightmare, they have now acquired and successfully tested their expertise of shooting down jets. This is something that must concern all well meaning Nigerians, these guys are becoming stronger each passing day and learning new skills of kidnapping and collecting ransoms from both institutions and individuals who unluckily fall into their hands.

In some of the school abductions, the kidnappers overan security check points with superior fire power and numbers to kidnap their victims. Most recently a picture of slain police officers, including a divisional police officer, while fighting to protect lives of people from kidnappers trended in social media.
They have made our schools and roads into a death zone and a no go area unless there is no other choice. Not even Islamiya or the Christian schools where God worship is taught are spared from their dubious and cruel ways

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central at the 8th National Assembly, has lambasted the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere for comparing the case of Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho to Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W).

Afenifere, had in a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, said “We recall that Moses had to be taken away from the prying eyes of Pharaoh and his agents in Egypt. Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W) too had to leave his hometown, Mecca for Medina in order to escape persecution.

“Thus, there is nothing wrong in Igboho seeking a respite first to preserve his life and perhaps to re-strategise.”

The statement has attracted backlash from the Muslim faithful as many described the comparison as insulting.

The former lawmaker, while reacting to the statement, described it as “unconscionable, provocative and disgusting” stating that the comment must be retracted with immediate effect.

He said, “The reported statement by Afenifere stands unreservedly condemned.Their comparison is wrong, unconscionable, provocative and disgusting. It must be withdrawn immediately.

“The Afenifere must tender an unreserved apologies to the Muslim ummah for such acts of irresponsible desecration.

“Nothing is more important and sacrosanct to the Muslim ummah than preserving, defending and upholding the Pious name our Prophet Muhammad SAW.
AGAIN Afenifere’s utterances stand unreservedly condemnable”.

Sunday igbohos wife, yoruba manoarchs, others in court for secessionist trial Some Yoruba monarchs have stormed the Cour D’appel De Cotonou, Benin Republic, for the trial of Sunday Igboho, a Yourba separatist.

The monarchs, supporters, and Igboho’s wife, Ropo, are in court, ahead of the arrival of the freedom fighter.

Igboho was arrested last week Monday at an airport in Cotonou on his way to Germany.

The Yoruba freedom fighter had fled Nigeria after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS.

DSS had raided his house in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, though he escaped.

The secret police had arrested some of his associates and recovered some weapons and charms.

The monarchs had yesterday met in Benin Republic over the arrest and detention of Igboho.

They have resolved to write to the president of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, over the freedom fighter’s arrest.

The monarchs made the disclosure after a meeting at the Ajohoun Palace in Adjohoun, Benin, on Sunday.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho has had his case at the Cour De’appal De Cotonou adjourned till Monday.

Hearing was adjourned till today on Thursday when he faced a charge of using a forged Beninese passport.

Media Communications Secretary of the Yoruba self-determination groups’ umbrella body Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO) Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, confirmed the adjournment in a statement issued today.

He said the adjournment was to enable the Buhari Government bring up whatever evidence it has to justify Igboho’s extradition to Nigeria.

Adeleye said: “The Lawyers handling the case reported after the proceedings that Chief Sunday Adeyemo lgboho cannot be extradited to Nigeria for two principal reasons:

The first is that Nigeria and Benin have no Extradition Agreement

Second, Nigeria has not been able to come up with charges that could lead the court to order lgboho’s extradition to Nigeria.”

“What Nigerian Government came up with were mere allegations against Ighoho such as trafficking in arms and inciting violence that could result in the social disturbance without evidence,” Maxwell said

The Court on Thursday evening ordered that Igboho be remanded in the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou pending the submission of charges by the Nigerian Government.

The court also ordered that Igboho’s wife, Ropo Adeyemo be freed.
