Day 46 – Negotiation Skills
🚨 The Customer Wanted a Discount... But He Sold at Full Price Anyway
Hassan owned a furniture workshop.
One Saturday morning, a customer walked in and admired a beautiful office table.
"How much is this?" he asked.
"₦180,000," Hassan replied.
The customer smiled.
"My brother... make it ₦140,000." 😅
Hassan didn't argue.
He didn't say "No."
Instead, he smiled and asked,
"May I ask you one question?"
The customer nodded.
"What's most important to you..., The cheapest table...Or the one that will still look strong five years from now?"
The customer paused. 😳
Hassan continued.
He showed him the solid wood.
He explained the stronger joints.
He compared it with cheaper alternatives.
Then he said,
"If price is your only concern...
I can show you a cheaper table.
But if you're looking for value...
This is the better investment."
The customer looked at the table again.
After a few moments, he smiled.
"You know what?
I'll take this one."
At the original price.
No discount.
As they completed the payment, the customer said,
"I wasn't buying a table anymore.
I was buying confidence."
That day, Hassan learned a powerful lesson.
People don't always ask for discounts because they can't afford the price.
Sometimes...
They're simply asking,
"Convince me it's worth it."
Here's today's lesson:
Never rush to reduce your price.
First...
Increase the customer's understanding of your value.
During negotiations:
✅ Ask questions before giving answers.
✅ Focus on benefits, not just features.
✅ Explain what makes you different.
✅ Offer solutions—not pressure.
✅ Protect your profit while serving your customer.
Remember...
If the only reason someone buys from you is because you're cheaper...
Someone else will eventually become cheaper than you.
