On this day in 2010, Goodluck Jonathan (52 years) was sworn as President of Nigeria, hours after the death of incumbent, Umaru Yar’Adua (58 years)…

In accordance with the order of succession in the Nigerian constitution following President Umaru Yar’Adua’s death on 5 May 2010, Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 6 May 2010, becoming Nigeria’s 14th Head of State. He cited anti-corruption, power and electoral reforms as focuses of his administration. He stated that he came to office under “very sad and unusual circumstances”

On 18 May 2010, the National Assembly approved Jonathan’s nomination of former Kaduna State governor, Namadi Sambo, for the position of Vice-President.

BUHARI IN SOUTH EAST, COMMISSIONS PROJECTS IN EBONYI STATE

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Ebonyi State on a 2-day working visit on Thursday.

Buhari was received at the Enugu International Airport by some Igbo leaders, including Governors David Umahi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Senator Sam Egwu, representing Ebonyi North senatorial district, Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, among others.

The President proceeded to Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, immediately he arrived Ebonyi and inaugurated some projects constructed by Umahi.

The projects Buhari inaugurated in Uburu included twin flyovers, multi-billion naira state-of-the-art Medical University Sciences, hospital, concrete roads among others.

He inspected the ongoing International Airport construction in Ezza North/South LGAs of the State.

The President will meet with Igbo Leaders tomorrow, Friday, and inaugurate the projects constructed by the Umahi administration within the Abakaiki metropolis.

Meanwhile, There have been rumors that in the have declared Sit-at-home on May 5 and 6 in the region over the planned two-day visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Ebonyi State.

Governor David Umahi had in a statement on Tuesday said President Buhari would be in the state for two days: Thursday and Friday.

According to the rumor, the gunmen who took over some towns in Abia, Imo and Anambra states on Wednesday evening, threatened to deal with anyone caught disobeying the order.
"Gunmen were seen shooting in some streets of Aba in Abia and in Imo and Anambra announcing to residents that there will be sit-at-home on Thursday and Friday when President Buhari is to visit Ebonyi State, and that they must observe it throughout the South-East," the source said.

ARMED ROBBERS ATTACKED BULLION VAN AT NGURU COMMUNITY IN MBAISE LGA OF IMO STATE ON APRIL 28, 2022.

Gunmen believed to be armed robbers have attacked a bullion van in Imo State, police authorities have said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, Mike Abattam, confirmed the attack on Thursday in Owerri, the state capital.

He explained that the incident occurred in the afternoon at Nguru community in Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

Recounting how the incident happened, Abattam explained that the bullion van was returning to Owerri after delivering money at one of the commercial banks in the local government.

He added that the bullion van was attacked by the gunmen who caught up with the vehicle with the intention to cart away the money it was conveying.

Some security operatives are seen at the scene of a bullion van attack at Nguru community in Mbaise LGA of Imo State on April 28, 2022.

Abattam said the driver of the van made several attempts to escape the attack, but the vehicle somersaulted in the process. No life was lost in the incident.

He stated that no money was carted away from the bullion van which he said was empty at the time of the attack.

According to the command’s spokesman, the gunmen fled the scene upon noticing that the vehicle was empty while the commissioner for police in Imo has drafted a police tactical team to the area.

He said the security operatives were asked to ensure the assailants were arrested and restore calm in the area.

•MISSING UNILAG STUDENT

Operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a 21-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Obafunto Babalola, who went missing on April 7th 2022.
Obafunto Babalola, a 300 level student of Architecture in the university was last seen a few blocks from where he lived in a hostel outside the campus at 51b Johnson Street, Onike Road in Yaba, area of Lagos.
Crime Guard learned that he got missing at about 8 am on his way back from his friend’s lodge where he spent the night. Ironically, his phone was recovered from a dry cleaner in the neighbourhood who claimed he found it on a parked vehicle opposite his house, the same day he went missing.
