LAGOS LOVE CHRONICLES
EPISODE 1: ARE YOU SINGLE?
" My ex texted me at 7:45 AM with 5 words that ruined my day"..........
Lagos, 7:42 AM.
Amaka cursed under her breath as the last drop of her Nescafé splashed onto her cream chiffon blouse. It wasn’t even 8 AM, and the day was already starting like a typical Lagos wahala movie.
Her bolt driver kept glancing in the rearview mirror. “Madam, this traffic go hold us small o.”
She barely nodded, eyes glued to her phone. Her pitch presentation was in an hour, and she hadn’t even rehearsed. Just as she opened her Google Slides, a WhatsApp message popped up from a contact she had mentally buried:
Tunde.
" Saw your new post. You look amazing. Are you single now?"
Her heart skipped. Eight months. Eight months of ghosting, of silence after he said he “needed space to think.” Now, out of nowhere—Are you single now?
Her first instinct was to ignore it. But her fingers hovered over the screen. Why now? What does he want? Is he trying to mess with her head again?
The traffic crawled as the sun beat down like it was holding a personal grudge. Amaka wiped her brow with tissue, then sighed.
Thirty minutes later, she walked into the office, the receptionist barely greeting her before whispering, “Your client is already waiting... and he’s fine, ma.”
Great. A full pitch in a stained blouse, and now this?
She smoothed down her skirt, squared her shoulders, and walked into the conference room.
And then she saw him.
Not Tunde.
Not her boss.
But a new client—tall, clean-shaven, eyes like trouble, and a dimple that could ruin lives.
He stood up, extended his hand. “Hi. I’m Dayo. Looking forward to working with you.”
And just like that, Tunde’s message faded into the background.
But not for long.
