Sea shipping involves the use of ship to import goods from one country to another, it takes between 60-90 days for goods to arrive from China to Nigeria and it's calculated in CBM.
CBM is the measurement of volume of a shipment, meaning the weight of goods are not considered here but the amount of space the goods occupy in the ship is what is being considered.
Though this method of shipping takes longer than Air shipping, it's equally cheaper for importing heavy goods and large quantity of any product .
The shipping duration for sea shipping makes a lot of mini importers forgo the option but in the end it's more profitable if you intend to Import heavy goods or bulk goods.
How to calculate sea shipping fee;
1pc of an Air fryer weighs 4kg with a packaging size of 320×320×345mm
And if you import 10pcs of the Air fryer that would be a total of 40kg right
But remember sea shipping is calculated using CBM & not weight hence we take note of the box size and currently 1CBM = $390( #161000)
With the above box(packaging) size, now let's calculate the shipping cost of 10pcs of the Air fryer
First, note that the above packing measurements is in millimeters (mm), so let's convert it to meters (m)
320mm/1000 x 320mm/1000 x 345mm/1000 = 0.32 x 0.32 x 0.345 = 0.035328
So 1 air fryer takes up 0.035m of space
To get the cbm of the 10 air fryer we intend to import: 0.035m x 10 = 0.35m
So total cbm for 10 air fryer is 0.35m
To arrive at the sea shipping cost of 10 Air fryer, multiply the cmb of the 10 air fryer, which is 0.35 by the current sea shipping fee which is #250,000
i.e 0.35 x #161000 = #56350
So total sea shipping fee for 10 air fryer is #56350
This is how most wholesalers are able to cash out big time in their Importation business from choosing the right shipping method.
