EERC Downgrades 59 Main Power Feeders Over Poor Electricity Supply In Enugu

The Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) has downgraded 59 feeders operated by MainPower Electricity Distribution Company over failure to meet the required hours of electricity supply for customers, especially Band A users who were billed for premium service without receiving the expected power supply.

Affected feeders across areas including Abakpa, Emene, Nsukka, UNEC, Presidential Road, Coal Camp, Ugwuaji, Coca Cola, and others have now been moved to lower service bands until supply improves. The Commission said the decision followed persistent complaints from residents and technical audits confirming inadequate power delivery.

The move reinforces the commitment of the Enugu State Government and EERC to accountability, fairness, and protecting consumers from paying for services not rendered. Residents can expect stricter monitoring as efforts continue to improve electricity supply across the state.

“Residents of Enugu are paying little and enjoying more dividends than any state in Nigeria.”

That was the verdict of Prof. Godwin Okafor of Georgia Southern University, USA, after personally engaging residents, drivers, and commuters across Enugu State.

The professor praised Gov. Peter Mbah’s development drive, highlighting major projects including:
• Abakpa–Nsukka dual carriageway
• Enugu–Abakaliki road
• Rural road expansion
• Free Smart Schools
• Subsidized healthcare
• Water restoration projects
• Improved security infrastructure
• MSME and youth empowerment programmes

He noted that the scale of transformation happening across Enugu cannot be sustained without responsible taxation and accountable leadership.

Across communities, the results are visible. Roads are opening up economic corridors, public services are improving, and residents are experiencing governance differently.

583 Enugu Communities Endorse Governor Peter Mbah For Second Term, Cite Massive Grassroots Development Across The State.

The Enugu State Council of Presidents-General, representing all 583 autonomous communities in the state, has officially endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term, praising his administration’s visible transformation across education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, security, and rural development.

During a courtesy visit to Government House, Enugu, the Council, led by its Chairman, Chief Arinze Ogbodo, also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election. The leaders highlighted major achievements including the construction of 267 Smart Green Schools, 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, 260 Farm Estates, extensive road projects connecting rural communities, revived state assets, and improved security through technology-driven infrastructure.

Responding, Governor Mbah thanked the community leaders for the confidence reposed in his administration, stressing that the work of rebuilding Enugu is far from over.

According to him, the projects across sectors are all part of a bigger strategy to transform Enugu from a $4.4 billion economy into a $30 billion economy by 2031.

“This is beyond politics. You cannot politicise the future of our children,” the governor stated.

Speaking during the exercise, the Committee Chairman, Comrade Lucky Porki, disclosed that only one aspirant emerged from each constituency at the close of nominations, describing it as a reflection of strong internal synergy and consensus within the party. He assured members that despite the consensus, all constitutional procedures, party guidelines, and electoral processes would still be strictly followed.

The committee also praised Governor Peter Mbah, the APC State Executive Committee led by Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, and party stakeholders for fostering peace, unity, and cooperation within the Enugu APC, describing the state’s consensus-building model as worthy of emulation across the country.

What was once a hidden criminal den deep inside the Ekwegbe–Nsukka forest is now being transformed into a modern dual carriageway under the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

The valley, believed to be over 60 feet deep, was previously used by kidnappers to keep victims and spread fear across surrounding communities. Today, that same environment is being reclaimed, secured, and opened up for development.

For Governor Peter Mbah, impossibility is not an excuse in governance. With vision, courage, strategy, and political will, transformation becomes possible.

Enugu Begins Strict Enforcement Of ₦500,000 Fine For One-way Driving

The Enugu State Government has commenced strict enforcement against one-way driving as part of efforts to reduce road accidents and protect lives across the state.

Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, announced that motorists caught driving against traffic will face a ₦500,000 fine, vehicle impoundment, and mandatory psychiatric evaluation before their vehicles can be released.

According to the Commissioner, the government has invested heavily in safer roads, dual carriageways, traffic systems, and road infrastructure, yet some motorists continue to ignore traffic rules and endanger lives.

“This is not about revenue generation. It is about saving lives,” he stated, stressing that many avoidable accidents and deaths are caused by reckless driving and impatience on the roads.

The government has also intensified public awareness campaigns and engagements with transport unions across the state to ensure compliance.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Obey traffic rules. Respect traffic lights. Protect lives.
