WHEN THE PEOPLE YOU EXPECT FALLS ASLEEP.
They are times people we hope on to stand and watch for us , but will definitely fall asleep while we are drown in pain.
There comes a quiet moment in life when reality whispers a difficult truth, the people you expected to stay awake and root for you may not always be there when you need them the most. Not because they hate you. Not because they wish you harm. Sometimes, they simply fall asleep to the battles you are fighting in silence.
Growing up, we are taught to believe in support systems such as family, friends, mentors, partners. We imagine life as a journey walked together, where encouragement flows naturally and help arrives on time. But adulthood introduces a different lesson, everyone is carrying their own invisible burdens. While you are drowning in pain, someone else is struggling to keep their own head above water. Their silence is not always betrayal often, it is limitation.
This realization can feel painful at first. It may even feel like abandonment. You may ask yourself, “Why can’t they see what I’m going through?” or “Why are they not showing up for me the way I show up for them?” But this moment holds an important life lesson for us, this moment shifts you from dependence to emotional maturity.
The truth is, strength is often born in lonely seasons.
Learning to stand when no one claps for you builds a deeper kind of resilience. Learning to continue when no one notices builds self belief. Learning to heal without constant validation builds emotional independence. These are uncomfortable lessons, but they are powerful ones.
This does not mean we stop loving people or expecting kindness. It means we stop placing the full weight of our survival on others. We begin to understand that support is a gift, not a guarantee.
And when you finally learn to keep going even when the room is quiet, something changes inside you. You stop waiting for people to stay awake. You become the person who can stay awake for yourself.
Because sometimes, the moment everyone else falls asleep is the moment your real growth begins.
