Gombe State Engages Tunisian and Moroccan Investors for African-Led Development Partnerships

On February 16, 2026, a delegation of investors and development partners from Tunisia and Morocco visited Abuja to engage with the Gombe State Government on potential development collaborations across water, energy, agriculture, and other priority sectors.

The dinner meeting, hosted by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, brought together senior officials, international investors, and the leadership of African Network Centre Ltd, including Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe. The engagement provided an opportunity to highlight Gombe State’s strategic potential, including its water resources, dams, industrial parks, and vast agricultural lands.

During the event, both Tunisian and Moroccan partners shared insights on investment opportunities and technical expertise, while the Governor emphasized the value of African-led solutions and South-South cooperation in driving sustainable development and economic growth.

The discussions reinforced the importance of structured partnerships to unlock Gombe State’s investment potential, promote regional development, and strengthen collaboration between local authorities, traditional institutions, and international partners.

Gombe Delegation Conducts Technical Assessment of Water and Power Infrastructure

A joint delegation of government officials, development partners, and international technical experts recently conducted a technical assessment of key water and power facilities in Gombe State, as part of ongoing efforts to monitor and evaluate service delivery.

The visit began with a courtesy call to the Emir of Yamaltu, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, where the delegation briefed him on the purpose of the assessment and sought his support for the planned visit. The Emir welcomed the delegation and commended the initiative aimed at strengthening critical infrastructure for the benefit of communities.

Also present was the Executive Chairman of Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Hassan Difa, who expressed the local government’s support and emphasized the importance of sustainable water and energy systems for residents.

The delegation was accompanied by the Gombe State Commissioner for Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, Mohammed Saidu Fawu, and coordinated technical activities alongside the Chief Executive Officer of African Network Centre SARL, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe.

The technical assessment covered major facilities, including the Dadin Kowa water treatment plant, pumping stations, reservoirs, power generation units, and distribution networks. The delegation observed operational conditions, infrastructure status, and factors affecting water and energy service delivery.

During the assessment, the team noted the production capacities of reservoirs, the functioning of boreholes, the operational status of power units, and the condition of pipelines and distribution networks, as well as the impact of energy supply on water treatment and distribution.

This initiative demonstrates the state government’s ongoing commitment, working with development partners, technical experts, traditional authorities, and local government officials, to monitor and evaluate water and power infrastructure in Gombe State.

Gombe Water and Energy Challenges: Deputy Governor Engages Tunisian and Moroccan Development Partners

The Gombe State Government has intensified efforts to address persistent water and electricity challenges through a high-level strategic meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau.

The meeting, held on February 13, 2026, at the Deputy Governor’s Conference Hall, brought together senior government officials, representatives of African Network Centre SARL, and separate delegations of investors and development partners from Tunisia and Morocco, each contributing expertise in water, energy, and related infrastructure sectors.

Also present were the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Forestry, Mohammed Saidu Fawu, and the Chief Executive Officer of African Network Centre, Gara Gombe Ahmed Shuaibu.

The engagement followed earlier strategic discussions held in Abuja with the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, which resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with the Tunisia Consortium for African Development, while parallel engagements with Moroccan partners focused on collaborative opportunities in water supply systems, irrigation, energy infrastructure, and industrial development.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Jatau stressed the urgent need to address water shortages and unstable power supply across the state, noting that reliable water and energy infrastructure remains central to economic growth, public health, and social development.

The Tunisian partners, led by the Vice President of TUCAD, Issam Ben Youssef, outlined proposed interventions in large-scale water systems, energy infrastructure, and renewable energy solutions.

The Moroccan partners, in their presentations, expressed strong interest in supporting water infrastructure development, irrigation projects, and integrated energy solutions, alongside investments in agriculture-related infrastructure and construction.

The meeting resolved to establish a joint technical committee to coordinate engagements with both the Tunisian and Moroccan partners, while allowing each group to advance projects within their respective areas of strength. Immediate field assessments of key water and energy facilities across the state were also agreed upon.

Yobe Govt. Signs MoU with Morrocan University to Promote Education, Research

Oujda, Morocco (13 Feb. 2025)

Yobe state government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Morocco's premier University, Mohammed I University, securing platform for exchange programmes for students and lecturers from the state.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa signed on behalf of Yobe state government while, President of Mohammed 1 University, Prof. Yassine Zarhloule, signed on behalf of the university.

Mohammed l university, Oujda, is the oldest University in Morocco with over 90,000 students and 1,200 professors, teaching various courses.

The agreement covers seeking for sponsorship of Yobe students to study Medical Sciences, Agriculture and Computer Science among others, at the university.

Similarly, the MoU sought for sabbatical programmes for lecturers in the Yobe State University and the Moroccan Premier University to go on exchange programmes in the two institutions.

Earlier, the leader of the state delegation and Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, said the MoU would accord staff and students of the Yobe state University acquire the experience of the Moroccan university to advance education in the state.

"The state government has in the last few years sponsored many students to foreign universities. Therefore, this MoU is of great importance to the state" the SSG explained.

He charged the Moroccan University to remain committed to the MoU "this would complement government efforts in providing qualitative education in our state".

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa, said the MoU would facilitate joint and exchange research programmes in Medicine, agriculture, environment and climate among others.

"This would also add value to the Summer School programme jointly executed by the Yobe state University and the University of Sussex, United Kingdom" he said.

Hon. Mustapha Ali Goniri, state commissioner for Agriculture, urged the two institutions to take advantage of the MoU to work on the climatic and topographical similarities in Yobe state and Oudja "to develop drought orow rainfall resistant crops, cereals and vegetables".

Yobe Sesame seeds, Gum Arabic Gain More Prominence in Morocco

Rabat, Morocco, (12 Feb. 2025) The Association of Regions (Governor's Forum) in Morocco have made special request for Yobe state government to participate and show case its sesame seeds and Gum Arabic in the forthcoming international trade fair in Mekenes, Morocco.

Mohammed El Bachiri, Executive Director of the association, said the association is ready to collaborate with the state government to attract investors and marketers to Yobe state for direct and indirect investments.

He explained that under the collaboration programme, there are rooms for financing of Agriculture, environment, climate and housing in the local government areas.

Leader of the delegation and Secretary to Yobe state government, Baba Malam Wali, said government would take advantage of the forthcoming trade fair to present its agricultural products.

"We have high quality graded sesame seeds, Gum Arabic, beans, groundnut and livestock among others in commercial quantities in all the local government areas.

"His Excellency Gov. Mai Mala Buni has directed us to collaborate with reputable agencies and organizations to attract employment and wealth Creation opportunities for the benefit of our youth.

"The state government is ready to partner the association to engage our youth into agricultural production especially in the sesame seeds and others" Malam Wali said.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Mustapha Goniri, said Yobe state produces and processes the best sesame seeds of international standard.

"The state government under His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni established four Sesame seeds processing plants to upgrade the quality of the product.

"The international trade fair would give our state the opportunity to show the quality of our farm produce to the World" Goniri said.

Similarly, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, expressed the readiness of the 17 Local Government Councils to participate in the trade fair.

"They all have the opportunity to showcase their individual products to attract investors to their areas and secure employment to their people" he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the consulting firm, African Network Center, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, assured to complete the documentation and all other necessary requirements for participation in the international trade fair.

Yobe Ministry of Livestock To Adopt Moroccan Technology

Ain Jemaa, Morocco (11/10/2025) Preparatory to the take off of the newly established Yobe state Ministry of Livestock Development, the Yobe delegation to Morocco on Tuesday engaged Morocco's biggest livestock farm, Maroc Lait, for a transfer of technology, experience and knowledge to enhance successful livestock development in the state.

Mohammed Raita, Director General of the company described the establishment of an independent ministry of Livestock by the federal and state governments as a positive move to improving livestock development and revenue generation.

He advised the state government to concentrate on developing effective management, genetics, feeds, water and veterinary services for the success of livestock farming in the state and country.

"We have developed a fodder laboratory for production of fodder seeds to provide healthy and nutritious feeds to the cows to produce more dairy and beef to the livestock farmers"

Raita explained that over two billion liters of healthy dairy is produced every year in Morocco, fetching the country huge revenue.

"You should introduce artificial insemination to cross breed with the local variety to improve your breed, to improve beef and dairy production in the state" the Director General said.

He assured that the company would provide cost effective services to individual livestock farmers, cooperative organizations and the state government.

Leader of the delegation and Secretary to Yobe state government, Baba Malam Wali, explained that the state government was committed to taking advantage of the existing potential to boost livestock development in the state.

"As a leading state in livestock production, Yobe State is willing to explore every available opportunity to support existing livestock farmers and create new livestock farmers" he said.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mustapha Goniri, said government is committed to investing in livestock development to create employment and generate wealth.

"We want to improve dairy production from the three liters produced daily by the local breed to at least, 30 liters daily per cow using the improved breed and improving the capacity of the existing livestock.

"It is gratifying that the state government has already put some measures including grazing reserves, water points and veterinary services to livestock farmers across the state.

"The ministry would provide all the necessary requirements to improve livestock development, and empower livestock farmers in the state" Goniri said.
