Palm oil business is one of the profitable business anybody can engage in because of the demand for the product and the ease at which one can start it without elaborate feasibility study and report unless one is going to palm tree plantation and/ or setting up palm oil milling plant..

Anybody can do it, it does not require so much protocol such as registration with Corporate Affairs Commission and NAFDAC unless one is doing the business on a medium and large scale

HOW TO IDENTIFY GOOD PALM OIL IN THE MARKET.

There are different ways to check the authenticity of a good palm oil, I will explain few ways I know which are:

👉Through food proximate analysis;
👉Smell;
👉Look; and
👉Taste

FOOD PROXIMATE: Analysis can be done in the laboratory, to check for free fatty acid, iodine value, moisture content and bleaching index in the oil. But since you and I don't have a laboratory, how do we check? We will use our sense of smell, taste and sight to check. Follow me :

SMELL: A good palm oil smells nice, it doesn't smell offensive, harsh and chocking....If a palm oil smell like petroleum jelly, you should have a rethink, its possible that it has been mixed with some chemicals.
Bad oil give a chocking smell. Check the smell before you purchase any palm oil.

LOOK: A good palm oil look reddish, runs freely when you stir it even when you store it for a long time.
If the palm oil is looking very dark and too sticky, it likely not trusted.

You can also check buy pouring some amount in your palm,wipe your palm and check if their are some faint color in your palm after wiping it, it likely that the palm oil is mixed with colourants.

TASTE: A good palm oil taste nice, infact it delicious on its own.
If it gives a harsh and chocking taste, is likely not good enough.
When you taste the oil and it stick to your tongue, it's not good at all.

Palm Oil price are likely to take people unawares this year

I’m hoping that by month end, the price would have been drastically reduced. But we need to be prepared.

Once the price drop I learnt it will pick up almost immediately, I guess it’s because too many people are into Red Oil storage already.

BEST PALM OIL FOR STORAG

The method of processing palm oil influences the palm oil and it's water content

Elimination of as much water as possible from plam oil is what prevents microbial growth (bacterial activity) during storage.

This is achieve by proper cooking of the oil after extraction, or carefully separating water from the oil.

Such palm oil therefore has a long shelf life and can last upto 8months and above due to its low moisture content.

My Advise: go for well cooked palm oil for storage
