29/12/2025

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that he promised President Bola Tinubu that he would โ€œhold downโ€ the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The denial comes amid tensions within the PDP, which escalated last week when Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accused Wike of promising Tinubu that he would hold the opposition party down for him.

Speaking during an end-of-the-year media chat on Monday, Wike described Makindeโ€™s allegation as a blatant lie and suggested that the Oyo State governor was โ€œfrustratedโ€ and lacked the courage to openly declare his own presidential ambitions.

โ€œSeyi Makinde has never called me Wike. That is the first time I have heard him calling me Wike. Itโ€™s unfortunate.

โ€œFirst of all, you ask yourself, what was that meeting? What was the purpose of that meeting? That would have led me to say, Mr President, I will hold PDP down for you.โ€

The former Rivers State governor queried why, if the allegation were true, Makinde did not raise the issue earlier after the alleged meeting with the president.

โ€œWhy did Seyi Makinde not come up all this while to tell the party, see what Wike is doing? I was in a meeting. I saw what Wike said. Itโ€™s not correct,โ€ he said.

Setting the record straight, Wike said: โ€œThere was no such meeting. Rather, my humble self, the former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Seyi Makinde, went to see the president.

โ€œWe went to see the president after elections were over, to discuss certain things. While we were there, the Chief of Staff โ€” you should know that the Chief of Staff is always around the president.

โ€œI was the one who said, look, Chief of Staff, come and sit down, so we can remind the president of what we have discussed. There was nothing like a meeting we booked to go and see Mr President. So, it is completely out of place for anybody to say that in that meeting I told Mr President that I would hold PDP down for him.โ€

Describing the claim as โ€œvery, totally unfair,โ€ Wike said the Oyo State governor was frustrated.

โ€œI have told everybody, frustration โ€” if you can see it, if you watch Seyi Makinde, you can see frustration. And this young man, we have advised severely.

โ€œPolitics is not like being a contractor with Shell. Politics is not like being a contractor. It has different rules.

โ€œWhen did Seyi Makinde come into politics? There is nothing wrong with having ambition, but the ambition must be pursued according to the rules.โ€

The controversy stems from Makindeโ€™s revelations during a media chat last week, where he detailed a private 2023 meeting involving himself, Wike and Tinubu.

According to Makinde, Wike voluntarily pledged to undermine the PDP to aid Tinubuโ€™s re-election bid, without any prompting from the president.

โ€œWike said he was going to hold the PDP down for President Tinubu,โ€ Makinde claimed during a public address, explaining the root of their fallout.

He further expressed regret over supporting Tinubu in the 2023 elections and vowed not to back him in 2027, citing concerns over Nigeriaโ€™s democratic survival.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo visited the presidential seat of power in Abuja, on Friday, his first A*o Rock trip since President Bola Tinubu was sworn into office.

Obasanjo, a major critic of the current administration, has stayed away from the Presidential Villa even when invited for crucial events like the Council of State meetings.

At the height of the seeming diplomatic face-off between the Tinubu and Trump administrations, Obasanjo had fired an indirect shot at the President, saying under his watch, America did not take any major action in Africa without informing Nigeria.

Obasanjo said this after Trump warned that America could deploy troops to Nigeria if the Federal Government failed to stop โ€œkilling of Christiansโ€.

While Obasanjo did not mention the controversy directly, he recalled a period when Nigeria was regarded as Africaโ€™s clear leader. He said Nigeria once commanded strong international respect, noting that late President Jimmy Carter would always notify Nigeria before any U.S. move in Africa.

โ€œThey were not seeking permission, but they would inform us,โ€ he had said.

But on Friday, the Nigerian leader was one of the guests at the Presidential Villa when First Lady Oluremi Tinubu hosted the 2025 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, themed โ€œEmmanuel: God With Us.โ€

According to a statement issued by the First Ladyโ€™s media office, Obasanjo read the Second Lesson from Genesis 22:15-18, emphasising Godโ€™s covenant of blessing through obedience.
Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who was also a guest, read the First Lesson from Genesis 3:8-12, recounting humanityโ€™s early encounter with divine accountability.

The host read the Ninth Lesson from John 1:1-14, affirming the Word made flesh dwelling among us. The congregation rose for the resounding Hymn: O Come, All Ye Faithful.

Christmas Carol is an annual event which Christians hold around this period of the year.

โ€œA Manโ€™s Money Should Reflect On His Womanโ€ โ€“ Lady Argues.

A Nigerian lady has stirred intense debate online after sharing her opinion that a manโ€™s financial success should be visible through the appearance and lifestyle of the woman he is with.

The lady made this known while being featured in the Honest Bunch podcast.

In her argument, she stated that a man who is doing well financially naturally ensures that his partner looks good, is well taken care of, and reflects his level of prosperity.

She pointed out that in some Igbo communities, men are known for dressing modestly, sometimes appearing in very simple clothing.

However, she added that observers often look at the wife to determine whether the man is truly wealthy, as her appearance typically reveals the familyโ€™s financial status.

โ€œA manโ€™s money should reflect on his woman. It shows you are doing well.

In Igbo land , youโ€™ll see a man wearing a short nicker and looking anyhow but if you want to know heโ€™s rich, look at his wifeโ€

Policeman Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Killing UNIJOS Student.

The Chief Justice of Plateau Justice David Mann has delivered judgment in the long-awaited case involving the killing of a university student, Rinji Bala, bringing a major legal chapter to a close, Very Nigerian reports.

Mann, in a ruling delivered at the Plateau State High Court 1 on Tuesday in Jos, pronounced a death sentence by hanging or lethal injection on the convicted Sgt. Ruya Auta found him guilty of the charge of culpable homicide.

The decision followed a detailed review of the prosecutionโ€™s evidence, witnessesโ€™ testimonies, and the courtโ€™s evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the case.

The court emphasised that the sentence was intended to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability, especially in cases involving the unlawful use of force and fi****ms.

Stakeholders across the state have described the verdict as a significant step towards restoring public confidence in the justice system.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that late Rinji Bala, a promising young man who was a 300 level student at the University of Jos, was shot dead on May 12, 2020, by Auta, after he was taken into custody along with two of his friends near the Hwolshe area of Jos, when they were strolling during the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to reports, Bala and his friends were apprehended, searched, and taken into custody despite no incriminating evidence being found on any of them.

After being beaten and released, they were told to run, at which point Rinji was shot, leading to his immediate death.

The case has been closely followed since the tragic incident, with many calling for accountability and justice for Balaโ€™s family.

The courtโ€™s ruling represents a significant step toward addressing unlawful actions by security personnel and underscores the importance of upholding citizensโ€™ fundamental rights.

Theophilus Danjuma Turns 88 Today!

The Quintessential Gen Ty Danjuma At 88 (a Birthday Tribute) -by Emmanuel Bello

At the height of the civil war, a journalist had cornered General TY Danjuma to get his thoughts about the ongoing carnage. To the reporter's shock, the well-spoken but courageous soldier did not gloat or sound bloodthirsty. Rather, Gen Danjuma was compassionate, articulate, and very clear about the direction of the war. He expressed regrets that officers who are well known to them will have to die in the heat of battle. He regretted the violence and the loss of lives on both sides. He noted further that the igbos were not enemies but friends, brothers, and neighbours caught up in the mess of an unnecessary civil war. It was in the heat of war, but the unmistakably courage and calmness of the man seeped through every word emanating from him. Not for him the arrogance of triumph or the bitterness of the battle. His calm composure in the face of the danger and fire, his leadership in the midst of chaos, and his patriotism at the height of national confusion were just all too palpable.

Years later, after the bitter war, Gen TY Danjuma was to carry on the same mein: straight forward, bold, and thoroughly disciplined. No single Nigerian, or indeed African, has remained like a statue of virtues, kindness, and courage like General TY Danjuma. He is clearly in a class of his own: taciturn, self effacing, and steadfast.

He is the myth, and the man all rolled in one. The world famous war hero is perhaps the most talked about Nigerian. Yet, he is decidedly silent, mysterious, and completely focused. Over these years, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, GCON, has continued to remain the main issue in Nigerian politics. His blessing is sought by all. His guidance has remained the most wanted, and his endorsement is believed to be the magic wand.

Wealthy but not detached from daily realities, highly influential, but not pompous, General Danjuma defies a
