REJOINDER: NO CONSENSUAL CANDIDATE HAS BEEN ADOPTED FOR YEWA-SOUTH/IPOKIA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

My attention has been drawn to reports alleging a consensual endorsement of Dr. Toyin Taiwo by a group of selected stakeholders as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.

I, Hon. (Tpl) Ogunwole Femi Adebayo wish to clearly and unequivocally state that I am not a party to, nor do I recognize any such purported endorsement. The exercise in question does not reflect the collective will of all aspirants that have obtained party nomination and interest forms and cannot replace the duly recognized democratic processes of our great party.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) provides clear guidelines on the nomination of candidates by political parties. While it recognizes consensus, direct and indirect primaries as valid methods; it equally stipulates that:

1. Consensus can only be adopted where all aspirants voluntarily agree in writing to step down in favor of a chosen candidate.

2. Where consensus fails or is not unanimously accepted, the party must revert to either direct or indirect primaries.

3. No aspirant should be imposed or sidelined without due process and the opportunity to participate in a credible primary election.

In light of these provisions, any claim of a “consensual endorsement” that excludes or does not carry the consent of all aspirants is null, void and of no legal or moral standing within the framework of the law and the constitution of our party.

As a loyal party member and aspirant, I remain committed to fair competition, transparency and internal democracy. I believe strongly that the choice of candidate must emanate from a credible, inclusive and constitutionally compliant process; where party members have the opportunity to freely decide.

I therefore urge party faithful, supporters and the general public to disregard any narrative aimed at creating a false impression of a predetermined candidate. The APC must continue to uphold the rule of law and democratic values that define our party.

I remain steadfast in my aspiration and committed to offering purposeful and quality representation to the good people of Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.
