📌 What is Azolla?
A fast-growing aquatic fern, free-floating, rich in protein (20–30% crude protein), amino acids, vitamins (A, B12, beta-carotene), and minerals.
It fixes nitrogen via symbiosis with Anabaena, making it useful not only as feed but also for improving water quality.
📌 Who Can Eat Azolla?
Herbivorous fish (e.g., tilapia, grass carp) readily consume Azolla raw or fresh.
Omnivorous fish (e.g., catfish, Clarias gariepinus) can consume Azolla when processed (sun-dried, powdered, or included in feed pellets).
Even carnivorous fish can benefit indirectly when Azolla is mixed with formulated feeds as a protein supplement.
