Dear Team,

Today, as we mark the global observance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, we gather under a powerful and timely theme: “Together for a Period-Friendly World.”

Menstruation is a natural part of life. It is not shameful, dirty, or something to be hidden in silence. Yet, for many girls and women around the world, periods still come with stigma, embarrassment, discrimination, and lack of access to proper sanitary products. Many young girls miss school, lose confidence, and struggle emotionally simply because society has failed to normalize a natural biological process.

As a community that believes in compassion, growth, inclusion, and humanity, Breakfast Chat Community must continue to stand for dignity and awareness. Today is not just about conversation; it is about action. It is about creating a safe and supportive environment where every woman and girl feels respected, heard, and cared for.
We must normalize periods.We must normalize conversations around menstrual health.We must teach our sons, brothers, fathers, and friends that menstruation is not a taboo topic but a reality of life.
A period-friendly world begins when we replace shame with understanding, silence with education, and neglect with support.

One simple but powerful act of kindness we can all embrace is the culture of gifting sanitary pads. Just as we freely gift food, clothes, and other essentials, sanitary pads are also necessities, not luxuries. A pack of sanitary pads may seem small to one person, but to another, it can mean comfort, confidence, dignity, and relief.

Today, I encourage every member of the Breakfast Chat Community to intentionally gift sanitary pads to at least one community member, student, young girl, widow, or woman in need. Let this become a movement of empathy and love within our community. Let us be known not only for our words but also for our impact.
When we support menstrual hygiene:
* We protect dignity.
* We promote health.
* We encourage education.
* We empower women and girls to participate confidently in society.

Together, we can build a world where no girl is ashamed of her period, where no woman is excluded because of menstruation, and where access to menstrual products becomes a shared responsibility.

As we leave here today, let us carry this message boldly:Periods are normal. Menstrual hygiene matters. And kindness can change lives.
Together, let us build a period-friendly world.Together, let us normalize periods.Together, let us give with love and dignity.

Thank you, and happy World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026.

The Breakfast Chat Community.

A POWERFUL VOICE FROM THE PLATEAU

Dr. Afan Azhang Kazé is an Associate Professor of African Literature in the Department of English at the University of Jos and one of the distinguished literary voices emerging from the Plateau.

He earned his PhD in English from Rhodes University, South Africa, where his research focused on Postcolonial Ecocriticism, exploring the intersections of literature, environment, identity, and society within African realities.

Beyond the classroom and academia, Dr. Kazé is a gifted fiction writer, poet, and singer songwriter whose creative works reflect deep cultural consciousness, artistic excellence, and thoughtful engagement with the African experience.

His voice continues to inspire conversations around literature, memory, identity, creativity, and the power of stories in shaping communities and nations.

We are honoured to host him at the 3rd Plateau International Literary Festival 2026 as part of a growing movement of writers, readers, thinkers, and culture shapers committed to strengthening the literary future of Plateau and beyond.

A GOVERNOR BUILDING A CULTURE OF READING

His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Executive Governor of Plateau State and ANA Plateau Book Ambassador, continues to demonstrate a thoughtful commitment to the growth of literature, creativity, and intellectual culture within Plateau State.

As part of his broader vision to revive reading culture and strengthen the creative ecosystem of the state, he has introduced the idea of a Plateau Literary Garden to be situated within the Government House. More than a physical space, the Literary Garden is envisioned as a living cultural symbol. A place where writers, poets, thinkers, and creatives can gather to reflect, exchange ideas, nurture imagination, and shape meaningful conversations for society.

The vision reflects a deep understanding that societies are not transformed by infrastructure alone, but also by ideas, stories, books, and the communities that sustain them.

At a time when many young people are searching for direction and identity, this initiative points toward a future where literature, creativity, and thoughtful engagement once again occupy an important place in public life.

We are honoured to recognise His Excellency as a leader helping to create space for ideas, culture, and the flourishing of literary voices on the Plateau and beyond.
