♻️ WELCOME TO GREENLANDS WASTE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
Hello, my name is Makkai Daniel, Founder of Greenlands Waste Management Services (GLWM).
We are a CAC-registered waste management and recycling company based in Jos, Plateau State, focused on the responsible management and recovery of value from electronic waste (e-waste) and other recyclable materials.
I currently lead a dynamic team committed to developing practical and innovative solutions to Nigeria's growing e-waste challenge.
💻 What we do:
We collect, sort and dismantle obsolete computers, ICT equipment, telecommunications equipment, electronic components and other recyclable materials, with a focus on recovering valuable resources and reducing environmental pollution.
🌍 Why it matters
Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally. As the use of electronic devices continues to increase, more computers, phones, telecommunications equipment and other gadgets eventually reach the end of their useful lives.
When these materials are improperly discarded, they can contribute to environmental pollution and the loss of valuable recoverable resources. Keeping obsolete electronics stored indefinitely can also create unwanted storage and pest-related problems.
At Greenlands, we believe waste should not simply be discarded it should be managed, recovered and given a second value.
Our vision is to contribute to a cleaner environment, responsible resource recovery and a stronger circular economy in Nigeria.

DAY 15 – FINAL REFLECTION

Today marks the end of my 15-day Plastic-Free July Challenge, but it isn't the end of the journey.

Over the past 15 days, I chose a reusable flask over 15 plastic bottles and avoided 60 sachets of water a total of 75 single-use plastic items.

More importantly, this challenge changed my mindset. I now plan ahead by carrying my flask wherever I go, proving that sustainable living isn't about perfection it's about making better choices consistently.

I'll be taking this habit beyond July because protecting our environment shouldn't be a one-month commitment; it should be part of our everyday lives.

Thank you to the Centre for Earth Works - CFEW and Break Free From Plastic for creating this challenge and inspiring us to take action.

If you've been following my journey, I encourage you to choose one single-use plastic and commit to reducing it. Small actions, when multiplied by many people, create lasting change.

DAY 14 – INSPIRE ACTION

You don't have to change the world in one day just change one habit.

Over the past two weeks, I've learned that carrying a reusable flask is a simple choice that keeps plastic bottles and sachets out of our environment.

It hasn't always been convenient, but it's worth it.

Today, I challenge you to make one sustainable change:

♻️ Carry a reusable water bottle.

🚫 Refuse one single-use plastic.

🌍 Encourage one other person to do the same.

Small actions, repeated by many people, create lasting change.

DAY 13 – ADVOCACY FOR CHANGE

One practical change I'd love to see is for large businesses, supermarkets, shopping malls, fuel stations, and other public places to install free or low-cost drinking water refill points, just as many banks already provide water dispensers for customers.

When clean drinking water is readily available, people are less likely to buy bottled or sachet water, helping to reduce single-use plastic waste.

Convenience drives behaviour.

If we make sustainable choices more convenient, more people will adopt them.

Let's create communities where refilling becomes the norm not buying another plastic bottle.

DAY 12 – BEHAVIOUR CHANGE

This challenge has changed one simple habit: I no longer leave home without my reusable water flask.

Before, buying bottled or sachet water was almost automatic whenever I got thirsty. Now, I plan ahead by filling my flask before leaving home and looking for places where I can refill it instead of buying single-use plastics.

It's a small change, but it's becoming part of my daily routine and that's how lasting change begins.

DAY 10 – SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVES

Reducing plastic waste doesn't mean going without it means choosing better alternatives.

Instead of relying on single-use PET bottles and sachet water, I've been using: 💧 A reusable water flask. 🚰

Refill stations or safe drinking water whenever available. 🏠 Carrying water from home before heading out.

These simple choices help reduce plastic waste, save money over time, and lessen our impact on the environment.

Sustainability starts with the choices we make every day.

DAY 9 – MEASURING MY IMPACT

Today is about looking back at the difference one simple habit can make.

Over the past 9 days, I've avoided using: ♻️ 9 single-use PET water bottles ♻️ 36 water sachets

That's 45 single-use plastic items I didn't contribute to the environment.

This challenge has shown me that sustainability isn't about making one big change it's about making small, consistent choices every day.

Imagine the impact if hundreds of us did the same.

DAY 8 – CHALLENGES SO FAR
One challenge I've faced during this Plastic-Free July journey happened on a day when I was really thirsty and needed water immediately.

Buying bottled water would have been the easiest option, but I decided to wait until I got to a place where I could refill my reusable flask.

It wasn't always convenient, but that moment reminded me how much we rely on single-use plastics because they're readily available.

This challenge is teaching me that changing habits takes planning, patience, and commitment.
