Jose Mourinho in an interview on the strongest tournament in football:

🗣️🗣️> "When we talk about football tournaments, everyone naturally thinks of the World Cup first — and rightly so. But if there's any tournament that should come next, I believe it's the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Some may see it as a local competition, but believe me, it is the strongest. I've been in football all my life — as a player and now as a coach — and I know what a truly tough tournament looks like.

If FIFA ever had the opportunity to invite just five European nations to compete in AFCON, people would truly understand how difficult and competitive it is. And if five African countries were to play in the European Nations League, I can assure you, the trophy could very well come to Africa.

What African teams lack is not talent, but belief. There's often an unnecessary fear when facing European teams. And in any battle — football or otherwise — if you go in with fear, you've already lost. If African teams played without that fear, I truly believe they'd be winning the World Cup.
