"Negligence by Kano State Government Puts Faith of Over 6000 Students in Jeopardy, Sparking Outcry"
We, the concerned students of Kano State studying across Nine Federal Universities, urgently bring to your attention the dire consequences of the negligence and disrespect we have faced from the Kano State Government officials, particularly the Commissioner of Higher Education, Executive Secretary Scholarship Board and the Senior Special Assistant on Student Matters, our calls are ignored, neglected and no possible response or outcome.
For the past four months, we have endured a series of delays, empty promises, and disregard for our plight. Despite our persistent efforts to engage with the authorities, our concerns have fallen on deaf ears, jeopardizing the education and future of over 6000 students.
Despite assurances from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the proposed 40% payment was unacceptable to us. We appealed for full payment, especially for those unable to afford even the slightest reduction. The Governor acknowledged our plea and promised imminent approval, yet no action has been taken since.
A screening team was dispatched to universities, but no progress has been made thereafter. We feel deceived and manipulated, with our academic pursuits hanging in the balance.
The consequences of this negligence are dire. Students at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, have missed tests and are on the brink of missing crucial exams. Fresh students are unable to even obtain registration numbers due to governmental inaction.
It is disheartening to witness the misallocation of funds for trivial matters while the educational future of thousands hangs in the balance. The approval of funds for various projects and subsidies further highlights the disregard for our plight.
We issue this warning with utmost seriousness: if the fees are not paid by Monday, the repercussions will be severe. The allocated funds will not be sufficient to contain the fallout from our collective withdrawal or deferment.
We implore the Kano State Government to prioritize the education and well-being of its students. Immediate action is necessary to salvage the situation before irreversible damage occurs.
Signed:
Joint Consultative Forum of Kano State University Students in Universities outside Kano.
